Kind of strange...
A well-known full-time maker of fine custom folders (featured also in Knife Publications before) has a homepage without an update for close to three years?
The last thing in the "What's new" section reads like "the newest designs as of 03/2001".....

What you guys think about that?

A lot of knifemakers are not computer savy. If they don't have someone else keeping up their website it doesn't get updated often, if at all.

They're too busy grindin' and makin' to worry about computerin'. :D

Most of that comes from where their customer base is.
If it is on the Internet...they keep the site updated.
By word of mouth and mass media exposure they get less Internet traffic and some makers just don't care for computers!

At first I thought it was me. Mine hasn't been updated in a very long time, but then I haven't made too much that is new.
I am going to do a thread with a link to my new photo album that spans 30 years of knifemaking.

There's another very fine knifemaker, who visits here upon occasion, that hasn't updated his site since "25 FEB 2001" (hint, hint, we'd love to see some of your more recent work featured on your website :D :D ).

I'm not saying this is the case all the time, by any means. There are a lot of makers sites that are kept updated on a regular basis.

I have to admit that if it were up to me my site would not get updated very often, thank goodness Carol works on it every week or so.

I believe in doing what you do well and leaving the rest to someone else who can handle it better so I grind and sweep the floor.

I really do not have a problem with it at all. There are many fine makers that do not have a web presence and what Gig said is very true.

Yup, I'm a lot like that too. My knifemaking really blasted off when my website came up, and I got inundated with orders. It has unfortunately dropped away in terms of immediate priorities for my knifemaking work. I accept any and all criticism about my 9month old "newest" pictures and "still available" stuff on my website.

Also, most knifemakers don't do their own websites. Even if someone close to them does it for them / with them, it is yet another level of organisation that many knifemakers groan at. After all, I think most knifemakers would like to just spend the time making knives instead.

But yes, from a business perspective, it is very important. So I'm saying myself, that theres really no excuse ... :p Jason.

Ask and you shall receive.

Hell. . .I'll take a free "spearpoint Avenger !" But, can you shrink the knife package down so that the blade is 3.5" ? :p ;) :D

Gig dig's the new rj website !

Gig: You are not the first to request a smaller version of the Avenger, but I do listen to my customers. Stay tuned to the website for more details.......

It's updated and it rocks.

Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!

wow! thank you RJ! that's super responsive :D :D :D

what happened to the japanese style line of knives like the wasabis, kozukas etc?

also, do you plan on making a scaled-down avenger with a 3.6inch blade? now, if you are - I'm definitely going to get one!!!

Spyken: I am still producing my full line of Japanese knives-just not at this time, which is why they're not on the site update.
I have a 3.5" recurve version of the Avenger in the prototype stage, planned for release at the ECCKS show in March.

I find that to be pretty common. I know of a least one maker who asks that you NOT correspond by e-mail, since typing is very frustrating for him. He'd much rather spend 10-15 minutes with you on the phone.
