completed a deal with him for a muddy sfno. paid on 4-7-07. he said he shipped, though i never received a tracking number. after about a week, he responded to a pm saying usps returned the package, and he would resend it.

he no longer respondes to emails or pms. ive sent at least a dozen. seems other buyers received their knives, so dont think he is trying to scam me, but i am very concerned.

655.00 is a lot of money. another member forwarded some of his info to me. im going to send him a letter, but dont feel comfortable calling.

should i dispute the paypal payment?

any ideas? or can anyone reach him?

first bad transaction on the exchange.

You might want to check with Paypal ASAP in case they have a 30 day limit on filing a dispute.

I agree on the PP suggestion. I would probably dispute it now to protect yourself, and if he comes through later on, you can always let PP know that you and the seller straightened things out. Also, I am going to send him a PM and e-mail letting him know about this thread. Hopefully, it will encourage him to chime in.

If you paid with a credit card through paypal, all the buyer protection features of the credit card apply. Your CC will jerk the money back from paypal, regardless of if PP can get it back or not.
I have done it twice, PM me if you want the whole story.
Over 600 bucks? Your kidding? I would go on a road trip for that....

Send him a registered letter demanding the knife or you will file Mail Fraud Charges with U.S. postal inspectors. $655 is a felony. He will go to pound him in the ass prison if he does not make right. I would also at a minimum notify paypal.

it wasnt with a credit card. it was drawn from my account.

going to check on their dispute procedure.

i opened a dispute, and ill send a letter.

there are 20 days for us to settle, then it goes to paypal for resolution.

I'm afraid that, as active as you are, something like this was bound to happen.

It happened to me a few months ago. Fortunately, the fellow on the other end was easier to get hold of -- and actually replied to my e-mails. We had to put up with over a month's worth of strangeness from USPS -- but it finally worked out fine for both of us.

Hang in there. My real concern is the same as yours -- why is he no longer responding?

Hoping the GBI does not have to get involved...

ive become pretty careful on who i will buy from. with this guy, i asked a couple other buyers before making the commitment.

the others had good things to say, and the seller was willing to work with me on a payment plan type deal.

one of the problems is, if i wait too long, the window to dispute expires. ive had some usps deliveries take a while, but always had a tracking number and was able to contact the other party.

Unfortunately, I doubt that the postal inspectors would show any interest in this. The transaction took place over the internet and payment was made by PayPal. The USPS was not involved at all. If payment was a postal money order, it would be a different story.

If you do not get results from PayPal, you might try the attorney general's office fraud division. Long ago and far away, I bought something over the phone that was received damaged. (NOT in shipping) The seller refused to do anything. After a letter to the AG in his state, I received a check for the guy to cover the damages. It's worth a try.

I would open the dispute with paypal immediately. If the knife shows up you can then arrange payment.

There is something you should know about Paypal. Even if they decide that you are in the right in this dispute, the only way they can get money back for you is if the seller has it in his account. They will not provide funds themselves and then go after bussefan to recoup what they gave to you.

he said he shipped usps. i dont know if claiming to have used their service would constitute mail fraud, but i somehow doubt it.

if it doesnt get resolved, hopefully i can just get my money back.

I hope so too, Morimotom. FWIW, I learned the hard way never to pay for anything with cash. I now pay for every transaction including PayPal transactions with a credit card. It's the only way I've found to protect myself from unscrupulous individuals and businesses.

Good luck getting your situation straightened out.

Indicating that delivery is to be by USPS should trigger the Mail Fraud statute - as does any use of the mails to carry out the transaction.

thx, that will be my next step. hopefully the letter i sent and the paypal dispute will settle the matter.

and just to reiterate, others who purchased from him received their knives. mine was apparantly returned to sender, then he says he resent it.

i understand resending can often cause extreme delays, for whatever reason, but had to take action so my dispute window did not expire.

Everything would be on the up and up if he had sent you tracking info and insurance ($600 smackers better be insured).

I hope he's not out of Kansas, there could be other exigent circumstances, but he should try to get a hold of you anyway.

why, if ya have his # anyway wouldnt ya call him?? boy for that kinda $$ i darned sure would, the phone is imho the best way to handle probs like this, call him if ya have the #.

i sure hope it works out bud, thats a lot of $$.
