No knife making today cause it is 12 below zero here! the wood heater i have in my shop will not keep up when it is this cold.
it give's me some free time to read the message boards.
how cold is it in your work shop
vern
My shop is in the basement and I've got a heater set up for my sweetie (my dog) so it usually stays around 55 - 60. The weather is showing 23 outside right now.
14 degrees right now but GREAT NEWS!!! It's supposed to get up to a whoppin 16 today! When my water pan is frozen solid it usually forces me inside to do filework and sheathwork that I tend to neglect...
Matt
its minus 22F right now here with a windchill of just shy of minus 42 F. I still do my work in the basement of where I have my full time job so thats ok, but I still have to walk the block and a half to get there.
And yes I converted the metric temps to imperial. Well time to bundle up and get to it, the walk in the cold will wake me up and get me going
its these temps that really make me wish I was forging knive and not using stock removal
Outside is -5 F right now...inside the shop it might be 20F. I'm inside my house which is 70F, and staying in here until it's time to go to work! -Matt-
After two winters of grinding outside, I finally built a shop that is fully bermed on two sides. It stays about 55 degrees without any heating. Aaaahhh.
Not that cold here today, and only a foot of snow.
I put extra insulation in my shop, so it's always around 60 during the winter. If i run my small heater for an hour or so, it will stay at around 72 for a few hours.
It is around 12 here right now, but no problem, I'm on the laptop, not in the shop.....
But, if the shop gets cold enought to put a skim of ice on the "dipping pots", I can either trade the shorts and flip-flops for sweats and boat shoes...or warmer.....or move inside to the "balmy" 60-64 degree house......
It is a Frikkin chilly 70degs Today with Light whispy Clouds in a Blue sky...
Had to take off my long sleeve shirt and just wear my T-Shirt this afternoon
It hit 28 today I believe but it hasn't been much warmer than 15F in my shop for the last few weeks. The downside of having a large carriage house as a shop is that the two electric heaters I have don't do anything to actually raise the temperature. I've found that heating tools up with a mapp torch is a great way to get more work done though
Wow it's been many a year since I've been in those kinds of winters. We had a high of 78°F today with one of 81°F projected for tomorrow. Folks have been coming in from all over the globe for some pretty high surf on the north shore this winter.
