That's the worst. Thing I hate most about flying.I'm knifeless in an airport departure lounge right now. That's about the only time for me.
I live in California, and I know of no statute in California law that says the owners of private property can make "rules of admission" that invalidate the lawful rights of the citizens of this state.Just to set the record straight, the business which has decided to have a no knife rule is exercising its right under the law too so you aren't being deprived of a right at all. You are an invitee of the business and the business may set rules for admission unless the business discriminates on account of race, color, creed or any other constitutional right. There is no "right" to carry a knife into a business or a home if the owner prohibits it. One may argue with whether or not the business or home owner should prohibit it, but the owner has such a right.

Last year waited in O'Hara international airport for a flight to go to Texas to pick up my son got to the metal detector and damn if I didn't have my knife walked to the car to put it up the got back in the 30 min line lol. Sucked being without my knife
At least you didn't get caught at the magnetometer, all sorts of bad things can happen then. You could potentially get arrested by local police, and also could face up to an $11K civil fine for bringing a prohibited weapon into a secure area of an airport.
There are some things that I dislike and less things that I hate. Hate is powerful and it will harm you. That said I hate to fly. I will drive whenever possible. Giving up your knife and your freedom is wrong.
The bad part is many people get thru with knives of various sizes and other pointy objects...I travel for a living and have seen people get in trouble for using there knives sitting at the gate. One guy I watched pull out a fixed blade about 5"to cut up his steak, needless to say it didn't take long for him to be surrounded and escorted somewhere. But the fact he made it thru with a 5"knife makes you wonder what else gets "over looked"...another guy I saw again at the gate begins peeling his Apple with a folder, same thing happened to him.I agree with you but driving g wasn't in the plans. And as for leaving your knife during a flight I see both sides of it and understand both and in all reality with today's bullshit am OK with it. I feel confident I can unarmed defend myself without a knife on just saying.
Any chance there are custom knitting needle makers? The bad part is many people get thru with knives of various sizes and other pointy objects...I travel for a living and have seen people get in trouble for using there knives sitting at the gate. What cracks me up thou is I can't bring a small folder onto a plane but they allow big ass knitting needles to be carried on.

I'd flown for 2 years(atleast 250 flights) with a leatherman micra in my back pack...didn't know it was in there until one day going thru a diligent screener noticed and confiscated it...however thou during those 2 years I'd had my bag randomly searched atleast 50 times and they never came across it some how. I've also gone thru on accident with my wave before.I fly once a week for work (or rather used to) and carry a sebenza on my side every other day. I felt naked on 'fly' days through out the entire day. One day, though, I'm walking to the gate, brush my hand on my right carry side and GOOD GOD the sebenza is right there with me at the airport gate after passing thru the TSA checkpoint. I've never been so scared in my life. Needless to say, I slipped the clip off my pocket and deep down into my pocket until I got to my destination. Holy moly, that was a scary day. On my return trip, I left my computer there and checked my computer bag with the Sebbie hidden deep where TSA sticky fingers would be hard pressed to find and pilfer it. I was lucky that day, would have made the 6:00 news for sure!! I guess the Ti-scales had something to do with not triggering the metal detector, but left me wondering if other not-so-honorable persons could get thru with non-ferrous weapons as well.
I dremeled the knife blade off a Micra and it is my airport blade/scissors. --KVI'd flown for 2 years(atleast 250 flights) with a leatherman micra in my back pack...didn't know it was in there until one day going thru a diligent screener noticed and confiscated it...however thou during those 2 years I'd had my bag randomly searched atleast 50 times and they never came across it some how.
