No knives at the giant gun store..the world changes and B Jackson can't keep up.

We're lucky to have five small gun shops in and around town with three being "part-time". No indoor range or pretty girls at any but chances are someone will say hello when you first walk in and try to start a conversation. If you're not careful you may spend your first 10 minutes or longer talking about guns, hunting, fishing, sports, family, or politics. Bolt actions and lever guns will greatly outnumber "BUGS" at each shop and all but one have more used guns(including pistols) than new ones. Muzzle loaders and shotguns are well represented with very slim odds of seeing a nice O/U. Two of the shops have a small selection of calls and decoys and all have a reasonably variety of ammo including 12ga slugs, turkey loads, and buckshot. Each shop has a few knives but other than finding the occasional vintage slip joint selection is less than desirable.

sounds like my kinda area!

Very Very Sad. I am 62 years old and remember going out after doing chores and yard work with my dad at age 8,9,10 ETC. and going o of all places a bus station in Hempstead N.Y. to a mom and pop / Brick and Mortar knife shop. The had cases and cases of knives from all over USA, Germany< even Mexico ,Japan and India. I can also remember going into any hardware store and seeing the cards hanging on the wall with the two blade and three blade jack for $00.99 and $1.50.

I guess when you get older you long for things of your youth. but I have to say that being able to hold the piece in one's hand before buying is a great help. The few Mom and Pop shops left in my area all have other lines going on but at least have some stock. They love to see me even if I don't buy.

I'm 63, and still have the Imperial Fish Knife my Mom bought me from one of those cardboard displays at our drugstore when I was around 10.

I hope that doesn't make me the old man here. I got my first knife at 13 but, I always looked at them any place I went before and after that first one. I've always been fascinated with them.
