No knives in the dorms...

I agree with the others that a SAK would be less noticealble. You might also try something like a Leatherman Micra, Swiss Tech Utilikey, or a Gerber Shortcut for your keychain.

Carry what you want, just be discreet about it. Don't walk around with a giant Crocodile Dundee bowie on your belt and you'll be fine. :D Also, watch where you pull your knife out and who is around you when you use it.

will drive all the sheeple to write to Sarah Brady and Dianne Feinstein about banning knives after the traitors attempt to betray our American freedom to bear arms...

Glad to hear a college aged youth say things like that , gives me hope for our Country :)

My policy is to carry what I want when I want regardless of some Bravo Sierra rule or law that I didnt vote on in the first place.
I am prepared to deal with the consequences too.

What really gets me about this is.... More people kill themselves from alcohol related incidents than anything that is banable. Knife and firearm related violence/crime doesnt even begin to compare with alcohol ! Yet alcohol is very much a part of most campuses across America.
Go figure. :thumbdn:

The SAK is a simple tool my dear Rat..! The Buck 110 is a deadly weapon..heh heh.. Just thought I would educate you! :D :D

When I went to college, just recently- I carried my buck 110 and used it to sharpen my pencils when necessary. I never had a negative comment. If I had been stabbing the table with it or waving it around, it might have been different. Just use common sense- You shouldnt have a problem. Truthfully, I wouldnt want to go to a school that had such restrictive and ass-backwards policies- Its bad enough that they have banned all pocket knives in regular school as well- I never was without a SAK or my Buck 110, starting in about 7th grade on up. The fact that they keep trying to ban simple tools turns my stomache.

I want to first thank you for all your replys and yes i am going to UT at austin which says no weapons of any kind and no illegal knives. This is the reason i called just to specify thinking that pocket knives would be ok but thats when i got the response that they were not allowed. After giving it some thought i think im going to buy a regular SAK and carry that with me playing dumb to their rules and see how it goes for the first semester. If their are no problems then when i go back for second semester ill bring some of my more "serious" folders. Atleast this will also give me an excuse to buy a nice SAK that ive been thinking about :D .

Don't worry we're not all mindless liberals following the blind :) .

If you do carry, learn to camouflage a small SAK or even a mini Grip. I've carried knives in places with a no knife/ weapon policy without any incident due to discreet carry. Try different colors of SAK's or mini Grips (greens, blues, yellow, etc) and try to clip what ever you carry to some other place than a pocket. Such as IWB carry. Sometimes a small SAK will fit in a cell phone belt case with the cell phone.

When I went to college early for orientation we met the head of campus safety or something in a large auditorium. After his presentation I asked him about pocket knives on campus. He laughed at me, said something like "ah, are you from texas, son?" (a real funny guy) and told me that students were not allowed to carry knives on campus.

I never had to suffer the indignity of surrendering my rights through dorm living and later got a job on campus (technically I am STAFF now, not just a student) so I figure I will carry whatever the hell I want. Hella discreetly :D .

If you don't get in trouble for something else no one will ever bust you out for having a knife on your person. If you go to wild parties don't bring ANY knife.

do yourself a favor, and ask the campus police, and make sure that you ask if it's ok to have a "regular pocketknife" on campus or in the dorms. My bigger fear would be losing a knife or 2 to theft from my room. SAK Tinker will solve 90% of the problems faced in campus life.-Joe

P.S. The colored Griptilians are a fantastic idea-I've been crying to have more colored FRN from Spyderco on regular models-delica/endura. My holding out hope is the only thing that has kept me from a BM purchase.

I don't know why you would ask in the first place... actions taken without orders are not the same as actions taken against them... well, actually, for all legal purposes they are.

Anyway, I went to Indiana last year at Bloomington, which is fortunately a very conservative place, and their rule was just 'no big knives' and fortunately, they left 'big knives' undefined. I had a sword in there, and didn't get any comments beyond 'Cool!' This year I'm back in Minnesota though.

My advice is simply not to draw attention to it. Don't bring large sheath knives, you'll probably have no need for them anyway. Just have a couple folders, and just use them, don't flash them around or anything. You won't need them ALL that often, and if they only come out when you do need them, it's rather hard to question them. I've never been questioned even in liberal MN about my knives if I'm using them for an obvious purpose, even on campus.
