How come? Maybe it's not as aesthetically pleasing as the Millie but...

- It carries quite thin in the pocket.

- The blade/handle ratio is superb.

- The lock and blade are strong enough to do any conceivable task.

But, no matter what, anytime someone asks about the Police it's always the same chanting: "buy the Millie, buy the Millie, buy the Millie".

its pretty much because the police is the ffg endura with a swedge. The endura is $60 roughly and the police is $110-$125. Same materials pretty much (except ones g10) and just about the same size(give or take an inch) but the police is double the price  thats why alot of people say get the military. Its just a better knife for the price. The mili also has s30v over vg10. Huge + in my books. Anyways the police is nice but the mili has everything your points high-light above and more.

Thats because most folks prefer the Military. Its generally considered to have better ergos, easier deployment and so forth. The Police is no slouch, and it packs a lot of blade into a very thin package, but a combination of factors cause most folks to prefer the Military.

I've had a couple and I think they are great knives but I just felt they were too long and narrow in the hand.

I had a ATS-34 version with G10 scales and a stainless steel scaled version in VG-10 before and they were OK.
Now I have a Police 3 in VG-10 with G10 scales and it is a very nice version of the series.
However, the Police model in itself is quite heavy toward the rear and it really is a long and thin blade, making it light at the front.
It's sort of iffy, for lack of a better word. What I mean is that it is big, but it's fragile because the blade is thin.
Opening the blade is not as swift as a Millie or whatever, because one must sort of change grips with it during opening.
Having said this, it is a really nice folder, but it's philosophy of use kind of eludes me. It's iffy.

First of all I'm assuming we're talking about the Police 3. I have to disagree big time with Woifie above. Especially with his claim that the Endura and the 3 are virtuallly the same "give or take an inch"!!! An inch is a huge difference when it comes to folders and I believe that ,at 4 and 3/8th of an inch, the Police 3 is Spyderco's biggest folder. In fact ,placed side by side with the Military, the 3 is a quarter inch longer.
I have a Military but I almost never carry it because tip down carry is just so idiotic, with the lanyard at the bottom of the pocket!
As Alan says, the Police 3 carries very thin in the pocket and is ideal for discrete carry. I'm also indifferent to the difference [ whatever that might be ] between S30V versus VG-10. The only possible advantage the Military might have ,is it's handle ,which seems to stick to the hand a little better than the 3.

I agree. Overall, the ergonomics of the Millie are somewhat better but not enough to discard the Police as an equally valid choice. The Millie is more robust, yes, but that doesn't necessarily make the Police a lightweight folder (chopping wood with either of them would be a baaaad idea). Just all the carry options alone would be a perfectly valid choice maker.

I mean... c'mon, I have a Benchmade 710, which has far worse ergos than both Spydeis and gets a lot of praise around here. I just can't seem to understand it.

I like the original SS handle Police, and plan on getting another one at some point.
My friend really likes the one he got from me for all the reason the OP posted.:)

An orange Police sprint run would be orgasmic.

I have the G-10 Police model. And while I like it, I have trouble deploying that long blade with the lockback with one hand. I have small hands, so it might not be a problem for others, but it keeps me from carrying my Police as often as I do my Militaries.

I have rediscovered mine. I usually EDC a Military. But I was browsing through the "Big Box O' Knives" recently and started playing with the Police 3 G10 model. It is a really nice knife! Slim and strong. Carries just as well as the Military.... and I'm actually more a fan of lock-back knives than liner locks. So, I have put the Military back in to the "Big Box O' Knives" for a while. The G10 Police has replaced it for now as my EDC.

Man i thought i was the only one around here that still carried a police. I got mine in 89 or 90 i'm not sure when they came out with them but it was pretty much the name of the game back then for a tactical folder in a production model if there is such a thing as tactical folder. The one i have is a special run back then that was Dlc coated with a fully serrated blade.

I like the fact that it carrys so nice being so flat and thin. The finish is still there kind of a smokey greyish black now with scratchs but now its got more character. The only really weak part besides being the needle point tip although i've never broken mine is the pivot. After all these years i have too tighten it up every once in a while in a vise lined with wood for padding you know squeeze it a little. It really does'nt take much to tighten up though.

If they would just put a different or more up to date heavier pivot system in it it would be great. Still all in all i like the police or i still would'nt be carrying it, mostly at work on construction sites. Its cut up a lot of debri over the years thats for sure and its still going. Maybe some day i'll take some pics of it.

Happy holidays all.

Hello Mr. Turkyo as now im assuming you and me are on a nick name basis

s30v destroys vg10 in every way, and the "give or take an inch" comment says that an inch of knife isnt worth double the money! I never said an inch of blade doesnt matter. Now where not getting in a argument over which one is bigger because thats childs play. Were talking value and although the police is nice for the money its obviously destroyed by the military.

I have owned Police SS for very short time. It surprised me having such a long and thin blade. And straight one... Did not understand it - got rid of it as soon as I could. Not my thing. I like Endura so much better!

I once picked up a left-handed stainless police in a pawn shop for $20! In a fit of madness I gave it to a left-handed friend.

I love my Police. The huge blade, and super slim profile make it one of my favorites. Had all kinds of different models, even the early ones with no Boye dent. I have found that this knife is one of the most concealable large blade folders around. It has done everything that I have asked it to do (even jobs that I knew I needed a more appropriate knife). It is like a good solid friend. :D I have no problems paying what they are asking.

What do you mean, left-handed police? I do not think there is such a thing.
