No love on the forum for the Spyderco Police.

I have the fully serrated Stainless left handed police model I picked up about 12 years ago. It has it's pluses, yes it is thin for pocket or behind the belt carry. Yes the stainless is easy to clean when I would use it to gut fish. The lock back keeps the blade in place with nice spring tension. The bad side is that the handle is not comfortable and the blade is too delicate for heavy use. It is not easy to open which could be a good or bad thing. I would think mountain biking with a loose liner lock knife could be a little more dangerous than with a springy lock back like the Police. Though the Police is difficult to open fast and tricky to close one-handed. If I had to choose again I would probably get a native or delica.

Police? I haz one!

My problem is, only one of my C07's can be carried legally in the state where I live.

Yup. ATS-55 with the tip reground to bring the blade length down to Kansas legal 4".

I can carry them in Texas. I can solve your problem. I'll give them a good home & even pay shipping! Is the 7th from the right the Tuffram version?

I've went on & on elsewhere about my Police 3 so I'll keep it to a minimum this time around. It's definitely one of my top 3 favorite folders. You get the ergos of a slimmer AFCK with a finger choil & 4 3/8 blade. The back lock is just right in my opinion. Not too tight with a firm, reassuring snap. The blade is wider & has more curve than the original version in addition to the extra 3/8 in. of length & the finger choil. The knife has that same feel that the G10 Enduras have. Solid & very well made & it carries like a much smaller knife.

I was looking closer at my old police and it reads Spyderco G-2 Stainless on one side and Seki-City Japan on the other side. Does any one have any idea what G-2 Stainless amounts too/what kind of steel it actually is?

The Police doesn't get talked about much here because it's such an old model. 15-20 years ago it was a flagship model of theirs. Now that place is taken by the Military/Paramilitary. Most people are interested in the latest-and-greatest, and apart from a couple steel changes, the SS handled Police hasn't really changed since 1984 - it hasn't needed to, and it's been in VG-10 for quite a while. Meanwhile other models like the Military have gotten several steels and handle materials. I don't think there's anybody on this forum who would scoff at someone for carrying a Police. And I'm sure it's still a good seller, or Spyderco would have discontinued it. It just doesn't get talked about much because everything that can be said has already been said long ago. Second only to the Delica, the Police is the most common Spyderco I see in other people's pockets.

I only have one Police myself. A limited run with titanium handles and a FFG ATS-34 blade. It's the smallest knife I own, and I wear it as a neck knife.

I owned a Police SS that had a custom stone inlay scale on one side bought in the early 90's loved that knife, ended up loosing it to an airport security guard, miss that knife.

How come? Maybe it's not as aesthetically pleasing as the Millie but...

- It carries quite thin in the pocket.

- The blade/handle ratio is superb.

- The lock and blade are strong enough to do any conceivable task.

But, no matter what, anytime someone asks about the Police it's always the same chanting: "buy the Millie, buy the Millie, buy the Millie".

i never really understood this myself; i love my police, wouldnt trade it for a military ever! I've since swapped it for a byrd cara cara 2 as its cheap and I needed something I could lose (cops are crazy here and like to take toys away and keep them for themselves...)

No, that one is titanium with ATS-34 blade. The Tufram versions are the three with visible pins.

G-2, also known as GIN-1, or Gingami-1, was the primary steel Spyderco used for the first ten or twelve years of production. It was the steel they built their reputation on. I like it a lot.

I think Alan missed my joke.

Yep.:) I'd like to find a tieclip, but when I was last looking for one I could only find them for ridiculous asking prices.

Thanks for the reply mine looks just like the fourth one from the left in you lineup black and fully serrated though.
I could'nt tell if yours was or not. Great lineup though.

That's the problem with having that many, you start losing detail in group pictures. My black one is fully serrated.

Nice it looks like mine when it was new, you know those are kind of rare i think. I mean you don't see them very often not sure how many were made. It looks like its never been sharpened, my teeth on my police are shiny now and have been sharpened quite a bit. Although its still has pointy serrations and gets pretty sharp. Overall their a pretty neat solid folder or mine would'nt have held up over 20 yrs. on construction sites.
Congrats on this one my favorite.
