I have had more than one of the biltons myself and I find them to be a very good knife. They seemed to be just a little bit hard so when the are sharp they hold the edge for a while. Work good in the kitchen too.
I thought that the 10th Day of Xmas post said they were made by Sher, but it was the Balance khuks made by Sher. Sorry for the misrepresentation.
Pappy--The Biltonsa are really hard! I had to take a file and diamond rod to the thing, it just ate my stones up. burnished it up and finished with ceramic. I'm okay with that, rather have a harder time sharpening it once than a harder time keeping it sharp. (The other one came razor sharp).
I doubt Sher will ever again willingly make a kagas katne or bilton.
IIRC, Kumar was Sher's younger brother, and had seniority at Shop 2 by the time Sher joined them. So Sher ended up working for months making kagas katnes for Christmas before he was allowed to make real khuks again.
That's where his reputation for extra-heavy blades came from. Took him about a year to expiate the "toys" and start making near normal thickness blades.
The first six months after the kagas katnes, every real khuk he made was hell for stout.
Hey, I don't have to tell a lie to make a good story up, I can do it by telling the God's own truth! LOL
I think I recall the first batch of Biltons were from the village and cleaned up at BirGhorka. I could be wrong and usually I am. You can do a search and find out for sure. But for now I'm gonna sit back and feel like I'm smart.
