no makers mark, it is junk?

do you find the 28 heft to be at all awkward? I mean dumb question if you carry is obviously you are comfortable, just seems like would be a hard pack .

3 1/4 lb is as heavy as I'd want to go for 28". I actually think the S&N is more like 29-30" OAL.

I just meant overall on the handle . I am thinking I need to figure out what size handle I want to carry and find a head that will hang well on that handle.

The more I sit down with my double bit the more I like the 28 inch handle on it. I am guessing the head on it is between 2.5 and 3 lb, had to tell with the handle still refusing to come out. It just has a nice feel to it the more I pick it up and hold it.

That's REALLY pounded in there, you'l probably have to drill holes in the wedge and try to get it that way.

Yeah. Can't tell in the picture but there over and inch and a half of the wedge dug out . It is so rotted it just falls apart trying to get It out.I carved a handle into an oak branch and beat on the damned thing for ten in mins and it never budged.it is on there good for sure.

That poses an issue then! Is there any way you can smoosh the two sides of the haft together so you can bang the head off?

I don't think it will come off without completely destroying the handle . I think I am going to just display it. I have that Kelly for work around the house once it is handled, and I wasn't going to take the belknap into the woods. so might as well not wreak the handle. I sanded it down and did a few coats of blo, I also wrapped the split with cotton twine and coated that with gorilla glue, actually looks pretty cool.

Don't give up yet! The fun's only begun. You can get it out, just needs some time. What I think happened is the wood swelled into the ridges and it doesn't want to let go. If you can pry the wood away from the eye you should be on the road to pounding it out.

Yeah the wood defiantly in the ridges. The handle almost looks like part of the axe head it is so fused together
