I just got my Ganjawal and noticed there are no marks, initials, nothing on this blade.. Is this normal?

I'll post pics when I can.....

No marks at all? I have an older gangaola and while it has a minimum of markings it still has the H.I. initials.

who made it?

sgt khadka and some other khukris don't come with marks

Bladite

there are absolutely no marks on the Friendship Knife I bought too. Nothing. No UB, no HI, no Kami marks and it isn't a Sgt, it is a Tirtha.
I don't know if the flood disrupted some of the stuff and they just sent it before marking or what happened but I think these are oddities.

Dharan though I believe are among the non-HI kamis and they usually come unmarked.

I have a Sgt. Kadka that is signed??? It has a hat on it.....

yeah, he did sign a few with the little hat and it is in the kami marks catalog.

Sweet...I was worried there for a minute!!!!
Sorry for the hijack.:o

Dharan Kami is what mine is apparently according to Yangdu.. I presume this is a different sect or dialect..?or is this someones name?

I believe Dhara is a region; but I'm not sure. Even if I'm right it could also be a name.

I think you're right...it's a region
Sometimes other kamis (non HI) bring stuff for sale. If the stuff is ok, HI moves it...those pieces are not HI signed...and they shoud not be... just me thinking:eek:i can do that?

HI try to help them live better, and in the process brings to us some different models.

Does HI stand behind them? is there a warranty on these? I guess I just assumed it was an HI when I bought it.. Had I known it wasn't I probably would've hesitated, or perhaps not pulled the plug at all..

I've never heard of Auntie not honoring a warrantee...but I'm not the one to decide this things.
Enjoy the blade and love it...it is hand made in the old tradition after all.
I doubt you'll pick up problems with it.

If HI sells it doesn't that make it an HI unless they deny responsibility before the sale? I don't imagine many of these blades ever need a warranty anyway.

Dharhan kami refers to an unnamed kami from the Dharha region as already pointed out - a lot of the antler material for HI knives also comes from that region. HI purchases several knives from independent kamis to supplement its stock as well as to offer us new and different designs... I believe some of the well-known kamis like Murali and the Sgt. are actually independent and don't work for HI per-say.

As for the warranty, the only time I've had to call upon it was with a non-blade related issue: the peening on a rivet of a chiruwa handle wasn't complete - combined with dried-up laha, the bolster and scales kept coming loose. I only sent it in after two self repair attempts failed to fix it. Really, when you have a blade that's 3/8"+ thick with a soft spine and hard edge which has been thoroughly checked over for defects before it was even sent over here... there's very little that would cause a catastrophic failure short of it getting run over by a train.

yeah, but..........

without markings, where does the responsibility lay?? Its a matter of he said she said.. If not being marked an HI why would they honor it.. ??

Killa, its an absolutely beautiful knife... So much so, I've considered no using it at all.. which is actually something I've stood against since I no longer collect but use ALL my knives..
