As knife makers we don’t make mistakes, just smaller knives.
I was trying to corral in this AEBL blade that took up a NASTY bow. Counter bending while 400° tempering and still nothing. Got to the point where it would just not counter bend any more and gave up the ghost. It scared the wife half to death when it popped. The tang shot across the kitchen and about took her out while she was on the phone lol. I did not want to loose the blade so I’m going after a friction folder. Any tips on this as I have never done one before.

Not anymore... :-D
Yeah, I'm sure we've all made smaller knives!
Looking forward to what comes out of this one. That's a THICK piece of steel to try to bend after hardening!

My last piece of AEB-L (chef knife) took on a slight bow near the tip following sub-zero. Having ripped a piece out of a 1084 usuba edge last season, this time I heated a cast-iron pan in the oven along with the blade while tempering and used the bottom of it as my hard surface to take the bend out. It kept the heat in the blade instead of cooling it back to room temp rapidly. This was only at about 325F, but far far thinner, as it was completely ground and sanded to 280 pre-heat.

This photo shows the blade clamped at the ends with pieces of steel between to clamps and the blade to spread the force/stress, as well as a round brass or steel rod under the middle of the blade (or wherever the counter-bend needs to happen).
