No More Camillus Cuda Folder!!!

Gentles, if you read his first post, it is clear that Jorgen had not tried to contact Camillus before making his angry post. How would you like it if you made a product, sold it to someone, and then found that someone publicly trashng your product and your company for the product's faults (real or imagined) without having given you a chance to make it right or to defend yourself and your product. I neither make nor sell products, but I can imagine my reaction and I have seen all too many of these posts over the 4 1/2 years that I have been a member. It seems to me too be simple courtesy, if not good sense, to contact the maker of your unsatisfactory product, a knife in this case, and discuss the problem with them as the first step in resolving your concerns. I mean, if your dog pees on the carpet, you don't that it outside and have a public beating do you? That is neither humane nor effective. I did not mean to come down excessively on Jorgen, her did email Will and they did work things out, after all, and that was the whole point. Think how much happier they both would have been if they had done this without Jorgen's angily airing it publicly first.

All's swell that ends swell! (sic)

Fora? I had to go look that up in a dictionary to see that it's an alternate plural form of forum. So, I learned a new word. Great. That's Bladeforums for you - good food, good friends, good news, good grief!

To belabour the issue, as we are wont to do, wallgrenj mentions, in his fourth post on this thread, that he did not contact Camillus this time because the first time he had contacted them he was not impressed with the reply, suggesting that wallgrenj had some previous contact that was less than satisfactory, and somewhat discouraging as to the usefullness of future contact with Camillus.

But, a happy ending to this comedy of errors. Hurrah.
Everybody wins.

As they say in the carribean, chill out Fuller H.

The person is from singapore, maybe american english isn't their native tongue...you then may be assuming something that may be incorrect.

By the way, Fuller H. many people work in environments where their work is regularly inspected, audited and publicly reported on. Many people and governments don't think product, management or even personal defects are private matters. By law product defects, problems, failure to perform, etc. are public matters of record for things like drugs, cars, transportation, etc. It's not unfair to come onto a public forum and report the facts of a problem you have with a product. Some people may think it a duty they owe their fellow consumers.

Brownshoe, you have never given us the benefit of your location but I don't believe you live in any area that has such legal requirements and I would not want to live in such an area. But, then you and I have different opinions of what constitute acceptable business and, apparently, consumer practices. We argued over American Tomahawk Com-pany and its dispute with Cold Steel and my low opinion of Cold Steel's business practices. I let it go when Sal Glesser asked that we drop the subject that was in his Forum. Here, it does not involve another company but a view about customer responsiblity when it comes to dealing with a manufacturer. Jorgen clearly says that he did not contact Camillus or Will Fennell until Will reached out to him, so I rather doubt that language plays a part in this. Perhaps he does live in a country that requires disclosure of product defects to a government agency, but posting them on a web-based international bulletin board? And before any attempt has been made to correct the situation? Please.

And tell me what you make of this thread, "Help me decide on which BM please!!!", by Curious2003. The url is http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=253267 and it is, IMHO, a case where the posting person would have been much better off contacting Sal Glesser at Spyderco than posting ths stuff that he posted. Another interesting thread where someone is sounding off, but got called up short, apparently, is "Feedback on A.G. Russell Knives", http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=255452 where A.G., himself, has asked the individual who posted the gripe either to give the details to him or to post them publicly. I am curious to see what happens.

Where I live is behind the screen.

The rules I spoke of are from the USA. You don't know your own country.

You backed off on ATC, because Mr. Prisco indicated to you in a related thread that things were being settled with Coldsteel.

But then this is the camilus forum. So lets talk cammilus, what about the finish, is it true what penguinva states, that the finish is rough on purpose?

Guys,
No harm, no foul;) We have a customer that has a problem, which I don't blame him for being upset about, and he lives a long, long way away. We will take care of him[Jorgen]. Naturally I wish we could have taken care of this through email, but appearently Jorgen had trouble contacting us, or didn't get the answer he wanted, or whatever[don't know the details] in the past. So he felt like he should bring it to the CAMILLUS forum...thats cool, we WANT to help customers.

FullerH, thanks for the sentiment, I totally agree that sometimes Forumites "launch" after a company/maker/product before they should, but in this case, Jorgen was having trouble communicating with us[or us with him, as I said, I still don't know the details of that part yet], so bringing it here on the forum was fine.

I would like to take this oppourtunity to address a couple of issues. First, I really enjoy this forum....I've been around BF since the first week it started. I have friends here, and would come here even if I wasn't working for CAMILLUS. With the start of our new website last year, we have had a 100 fold increase in email corrospondence with our "end users", and it has taken some "getting used to" on our end. We have totally revamped our customer service dept., and begun to get those folks intergrated into email corrospondence, but it has taken awhile.

I have "filled in" in the for customer service here on BF since the beginning, and I will continue to do so. My position with CAMILLUS is "Product Manager", which means I get to help define, conceptualize, and bring to market all the kewl new toys. So I am in a unique postition to answer questions regarding new knives. You guys are stuck with me;)

Bur, regarding customer service issues, please direct all email to

customerservice@camillusknives.com

If you think it is an issue that I need to know about...maybe it a new model, or something REALLY BAD went wrong....feel free to copy me on the email....

willfennell@camillusknives.com

I will always be availible to help out, but as you guys may have noticed, I'm away quite a bit, and I want to minimize customer service issues/returns issues "falling through the cracks".....so, I'm still here, but please contact customer service when you need customer service.

Thanks guys...you guys will never know how much fun this job really is:cool:

Great answer, Will.
That's service for you!

But, can we still act dumb?
Can we still argue ad nauseum over trivialities?
Can we still be jerks?
I sure hope so.

And to all a good night.

The end?

I would complain about the off centered blade. But it's hard to complain about the tool marks on the D2 steel because you get so much blade and handle, frame lock, and premium D2 steel for such a resonable price.

Bottom line: The prices have dropped on the cuda maxs so it is a bargin knife but made with premium materials and you get a lot of material for your $. If you can get something better for the $ please post the link.

Brownshoe,
The point I was making( at least trying! ) was that the area on the sides of the flippers/guards do show some laser cut marks - to hand finsh these out would increase the cost of the knife appreciably and they are not that noticeable to other people when using the knife - the finish on the rest of the knife, both handles and blade are totally first-rate - as nice as any BM, Spydie and even CRKT! :D :D :D At least to me and most people I've heard from it's a fair trade off on a user knife when the rest is finished at near custom level but that is an individual decision that each person has to make when deciding on the knife. I'm done! :) ;)

Bill

Thank you, Will. I have but one Camillus, and that is a CUDA MAXX 5.5 with a Bowie blade, although I am surely tempted by one of the OVB models as I love Bowies and will never be able to afford one of Jerry's custom mades.

Brownshoe, I did NOT back off because of any posts in the ATC forum. Tony Prisco's post on the subject was in response to my request, so I already knew of it. I backed because Sal asked me to do so. And I am now backing off of this one because: 1) I find that I do not have all of the facts in Jorgen's case, as Will has so politely pointed out; and 2) Will has also, more or less, asked us to stop.

Jorgen, as I said in # 1, above, I am sorry if I jumped without all of the facts in your case, but I also know that I am tired of seeing people's first response being to trash the maker or manufacturer of a knife, or any other product, without giving that manufacturer or maker a chance to make it right. I will not buy a Volkswagen, but that is only after 5 years and 45,000 miles of fighting with the company over my 1976 Rabbit, only to be told that the company had sued EPA to get the ruling that work on VWs by the authorized dealer's "factory trained" service technicians was classed as tampering by non-company personnel which invalidated the 50,000 mile warranty on the emissions gear. This meant that I would have had to have my car sent back to Germany for maintenance and repairs to keep the warranty. I decided, then and there, to get rid of the car and never to buy a VW again, no matter how appealing they were for they do not stand behind what they make. It has been my experience that the knife makers and manufacturers that are still represented here DO stand behind their products.

Hi FullerH and All,

marty123 is correct- this was the 2nd time I contacted Camillus. But now everything if just great!!! Will Fennell is giving me the best possible support- which I highly appreciate!!!

So I think we can close this thread now, and after my trip to Malaysia's jungle end of this month. I would be more than happy to share my extensive usage and testing of an interesting fixed blade knife- also from Camillus. More about this in June! ;)

Thanks and Regards,

Jorgen Wallgren
