No more expensive knives at work

I cant believe it but the telescope magnet worked and not only did it work but I found it in less then 5 minutes. The spyderco god was watching over me today. Thanks everyone for your input.

Nothing like finding a lost loved one! I agree with the attached para-cord lanyard. Fishing, I usually keep my knife looped around my wrist with a bit of cord, or even a length of ball-chain.

Glad to hear you found your knife

I have a tritium lanyard on my work knife, helps to find it in the dark.

I pretty much gave up on expensive knives because of two incidents: first, I failed to close my car door properly coming out of my driveway and my Chris Reeve fell out of my pocket and was run over by a a semi before I could pick it up; second, I lost a Mike Obenauf custom while trying on coats at an outlet store only a week after I recieved it. I won't feel like a total idiot if I lose a $35 Kershaw!;)

Attach it to a belt loop through the lanyard hole. Find a decent quality retracting cord/string, see if that works out for you.

Very nice, glad it worked out for you!

It's annoying how many things can snag a clip and take your knife out of your pocket. Something caught my M390 Military and I heard it hit the ground. Hit the ground without enough force to fully open, chipping the tip in the process.

I think all the best advice has already been given (belt sheath/pouch, lanyard). So I'll tell my near-loss pocket clip-related story-

I was at work and had just finished applying binding straps to some large boxes for ship-out and carried them over to the pick-up area. A little while later I reached down to grab my knife (large Bradley Alias) and it wasn't there . I felt a jolt of panic shoot through me and started to retrace my steps and try to figure out what could have happened to it (Did it fall out of my pocket somewhere? Did I put it down somewhere and forget it?). Then I happened to look over in the direction of the boxes that I had strapped and there was my knife, dangling off one of the straps by the pocket clip. Apparently when I lifted the box one of the straps got hooked onto the clip and lifted the knife right out of my pocket like a pick-pocket. I never even felt it happen.

I'm glad you found your knife. One general suggestion I'll add is to have ones name and phone number etched/engraved somewhere visible on the knife. This way if you lose it and an honest person finds it they can get it back to you.

Man, i am lucky to have never had a pocket clip get snagged. In fact, my belt loops snag on things way more than anything else. Glad you were able to find it. I have on of those telescoping magnets for finding screws, but good to know I can use it for knives to if needed.

The same thing happened to me with a jacket that has an adjustable strap around the bottom. The loop of strap where you pull it to adjust happens to be right next to my front right pocket. I've found 2 knives hanging out there after looking all over for them!

If I'm at work, I'd definitely wouldn't mind a belt sheath. Then you also have the possibility of carrying a fixed blade in a sheath of course, which I'd probably prefer then (if the laws allow it of course). I still like pocket clips for casual carry though, since the sheath can be uncomfortable on your belt while sitting down etc. Great that you found the knife BTW

I lost my ZT 0560 while on a training mission in Minnesota. The grass we were in was easily waist high and after searching for it as best I could at the time, I figured it was gone for good. Luckily, a few days later, a buddy of mine happened to kneel on it (blade was closed) during a security halt and returned it to me. I was so ecstatic and thankful that I have purchased him a 0560 to replace his beat to hell 0350. Now, any time I'm in the field, I dummy cord my knives to my belt loop.

I'm glad you found your lost para 2!

I need the benchmade gods to help me find my lost 581 Barrage; it's too sweet of a knife to not know where it is... :(

The problem is, I have no idea where I lost it so I've been hunting everywhere like a crazy man; at work, in our suv's around the house etc. I'm getting worried it's gone for good. :thumbdn:
