I've created a HI Cantina forum for you guys. I want all off topic threads going in there from now on.

By having so many off topic threads in this forum, you guys have made it so it's impossible to prune out the non-knife related stuff when I want to prune the deadwood. As such, when I prune we have to lose some of the HI forum information as well.

Please limit HI related topics to this forum, and the off topic stuff to the cantina from now on.

Spark is the boss and we'll have to try this new system. It's not the first time in my life I've awoke to a new deal from a new deck.

Spark, you're nicer to us than you have to be. We really appreciate it.

Works for me, and better than ever losing some valuable knife related reference info instead. Although we can still keep Uncle Bill's philosophy to heart when posting anywhere on HI: "What does this have to do with khukuris? Everything!" (-:

I guess that our threadjacking days are at an end.

Still, I like this setup better. I think that we'll be fine.

So, how about those Cubs?

sorry spark...I couldn't help it...honest...I won't do it again...oops...pardon me...

I know there was a problem, and I know something needed to be done, but I cant help feeling that this will mark the end of the HI cantina as it was.
The vigor will be leeched off over time and eventually there really will be two forums, separate and distinct, and neither one as good a the original.

The idea of free speech and the electoral process is a painful, noisy combination. Life is noisy and painful.

The splitting up of the forum strikes me as something akin to being put in a nursing home. Sure, it's got all we need to survive and the kids can always come visit, but the vitality that comes from interaction with the real world is gone and wont come back.

I'm sorry this had to happen and I hope it can be reversed in the future with some other arrangements in place.

Danny, I know exactly how you're thinking about this. (don't you HATE it when someone thinks they know your thoughts?). I was worried about that too. But it doesn't have to be that way. For me, it's just a question of looking in 2 different, but VERY close together places for new threads/responses. Spark was even considerate enough to make it a sub-forum, with direct access from the main forum screen.

We can (and will) direct newcomers between the two.

I think it'll be OK. And I'm usually very pessimistic about changes.

Understood.

Deleting "HI" Link and placing "HIC" link in my toolbar.

Would it count if I have a HI Khuk on the front of my motorcycle?

I bow to Sparks wishes as he has the power to enforce this decision, however, like DIJ, I think this will leech some of the vitality of this Forum. Unquestionably there will be dislocations.

Though we are certainly guests on Sparks board, (even as a paying "Gold Member") this is also unquestionably a limitation of the "free speech" policy this Forum has enjoyed.

Though I will abide by this decision, I don't have to like it.

I winder what Uncle Bill Martino would have had to say?

Every day a new surprise!

The Tao in action.

I think this unexpected change can be dealt with. It may give us a few headaches as we try to figure out if some of the threads are about knives or are not about knives.

;)

A person can't be in two places at once. People, however, can, and we can make this work.

We have the capability. I have no doubt of this. Do we have the desire?

Sales are going to drop.
That's just a fact.

I don't see it Danny. Yangdu will still post her DOTD on the main forum, and we can see the Cantina right off that. If anything, the Cantina will suffer as people mill about the forum looking at knife threads.

We will lose some of the freewheeling give and take and easy shifts we had between "knife and life" topics, but we can still have both I think. At least I hope so...

Regards,

Norm
