No more TALONITE from me!!

Hey guys. The few of you who remember me at all probably realize that I haven't been around much at all in the last few months between student teaching and a newly rekindled interest in firearms. Thus I've missed whatever preceded this thread. I've never heard of Allen Blade, and I remember Lynn Griffith but when I left he was considered a very talented and personally likeable maker, though he had posted a lot of pics of his own work. (I was one of the people who didn't mind that at all.)

So, from an outsider's POV . . . . I agree with Fishface. Ed apparently knows Allen well enough to inquire personally, and he did, and based on what he was told by Allen himself decided that the concerns in this thread are misplaced and we should drop it. How can ya argue with that, right? Over on TFL recently Rich made a few cryptic remarks which some of us interpreted as threatening to shut down the Firing Line. I emailed one of the moderators, Dona Cicci, and was reassured that everything would be fine and the change was only the addition of a few moderators, but asked to keep the info confidential. This looks like the same idea.

I don't really know much about Talonite except what I rudely overheard from Rob Simonich at the last Blade show

but I take it the stuff is pricy and requires careful grinding--is it possible that Allen is simply having trouble making ends meet working in Talonite at his prices and feels he can do better in steel?

And Allen, PLEASE reconsider publicizing your website here. I never got the chance to see it and if you keep it secret I never will!

Hello,

Thanks Guys for you Inputs and concern,,i think i have Ironed out the wrinkles and should be back on an even Keal, as far as the Talonite goes, i overreacted a bit i think. That issue is taken care of and i will continue to make some talonite Blades.

My main concern was not making any enemys because of my Pricing.

Anyway i think the web site is still up,thanks David for all your hard work on it!!

Take Care, Allen Blade

I've been keeping up with this thread NOT because I like a good fight but to see the outcome and was curious how all would turn out. I was thinking from the beginning, "how will this big family handle this"?? Then there was a post to that effect. What I was really thinking was how my family would fight and argue, yell and scream, scratch and claw, bite and hit etc. Then a week later all would be well and we would laugh about it. I'm not making little of things I don't know about here. I'm only making the conclusion that this is a normal family and a pretty good one to belong to.

Allen,

I have never met you or seen your work that I recall. I am a bit unclear on whats going on with you and what's been said to you or by who but if you want to usetalonite....use it

I have been away from the forums this past week due to my wife's fathers death last sunday, but i get back and see another bad situation happening again

Why anyone would have a problem with your pricing or materials you use for your work is beyond me. I have never used talonite and have no plans to use it. if i did i sure wouldnt care who else used it or what they charged for it.

just do what you think is right for you and keep doing your work

good luck too you.

Whew!!! A big sigh of relief comes from me! Your tips on knife making have helped me out greatly on my first three knives that I have made Allen, and It would really have been a loss to have seen less of yoy in the forums and in the knife world in general. Prices too low? Not if it is working for you, providing for your family and all. Perhaps other makers have their prices a little too high? Hmm... I've started noticing something like this in some areas of the market. I'm not going to mention any names, but I have seen extremely similar products/services offered at very different prices! If others say you price too low, I say too bad! They will have to improve their advertising scheme, improve their quality, lower costs to lower prices, etc. I think they (whoever they are) probably felt that it was easier to pressure you than adapt. So much for that!!! THE FORUMITES HAVE SPOKEN!!!!
