Honestly I dont understand the big deal. Manufacturing a knife with a wave? Sure I get him getting a bit irritated at that. But telling someone they cant do an aftermarket modification service? I just dont see them as the same thing. Its not really the same product as he doesnt provide this service. I guess if you draw the parallels of profiting off of anothers idea then fine but in this case I think its a stretch. He didnt invent the idea but rather adopted an existing technology from an existing knife of another make for a different purpose and then went running to the patent office with it. I dont hold much sympathy for the guy.

I watched it on mute and it was very funny. My speaker froze up before the ending.
I am surprised he asked you to not do it, even being so small time. Customizing should be allowed. Your a good guy for following through.

The patent will run out in 3-4 years... as much as I like to do mods, this will free up some time to pursue my real passion... making knives.

Spyderco, Kershaw, Fox, Emerson... So anyone can make a "waved" knife except for Charlie Mike??? I guess those companies pay a royalty.
Have you gotten anything like a legal "Cease and Desist" letter? Doesn't matter now since you've already made a gentleman's agreement to stop; I'm just curious as to what sort of threat or competition you were perceived as.

Never received any sort of C&D. I just figured since Ernie was at the show, I should take the high road and ask.

- Those companies all have a license to use the Wave. You can see the patent number on their blades.

- Emerson still doesn't care what you do with your own knives. They don't want you to profit from making money off "Waving" a knife.

Exactly!

I understand where Ernie is coming from. He's a gentleman and probably one of the nicest guys I've had the pleasure of meeting. A promise from Charlie Mike is good enough for Ernie, that's how he does things. Ernie has another gentlemens agreement with the knife community to not make any Po'boy CQC-6's. The community has honored that request and no legal action needed to be taken.

I can grind it off for you ;)

Honorable gesture on your part for sure.

Badass new tat.

Try Perdomo's..10yr Champagne and 20 yr Anniversary. Push the smoke through your nose/sinus..you'll taste it more..lol (seriously)
