no old hickory love?

if they were available locally i would buy them. But htere is no way i'm spending $100+ CDN $$ after import taxes, duties, exchange rate plus shipping for a $10 knife
Bushman check out ebay.
While there are sellers who gouge with shipping there are some who do not.
I usually pay less shipping from U.S sellers than i do from Canadian sellers.
And if the orders under 100$ you usually don't even end up paying taxes let alone any import fees.
Most stuff i order from the U.S just gets delivered without any pay-at-the-door postal fees.
And with the old hickory stuff you can find lots of used knives bundled together.

I have the paring knife and the cabbage knife. Both get lots of food prep use.

i didn't know that, brother! good to know.

.......

for those who are having problems with the scales "getting wonky" maybe a cost effective solution would be to use thin superglue to seep into the leak points before using the knives, for longer lifespan of the scales.

i haven't tried that yet, but i have done similar things to good effect.

HTH.

They are fun to modify, and to make our own. I have never really used them much though. I bought some I found in a flea market for cheap a while back, but I didn't do much to them, other than re-sharpen, make the handle a little more comfy, and sell them. Made a decent profit, and than bought some other stuff I needed at the time.

I modded a bunch of them once upon a time into some pretty damn sweet Nessies. I use one in the shop to skiv my leather, and it holds an edge fine. I wonder though. Never know when a modern company is going to cheap out and ruin their product.

Of course thats if it was shipped U.S.P.S to Canada and delivered by Canada post.
If it comes via Fed-ex/UPS then you are in a world of financial hurt (dang $50 "brokerage fees!)
Thats why i never do business with U.S companies that insist on Fed-ex/UPS.

I only remember one time in the last 5 years i had to pay anything at the door, so thats probably one package in maybe 200!

I have a couple!
One always stays in my hunting pack along with a small file for sharpening.
I've used it as a 2nd knife on a few elk and deer.
Most like everybody else, I've got a good many knives....but everybody also has a el cheapo they just can't leave behind. :)

I've used them off and on as field knives with good success. Did an article in backwoodsman a few years back on modding one into a buchcraft knife. It was a fun project and I still really like the knife that came out out of it. I took a 7" butcher and made a 5" spearpoint with a convex edge. I reworked the handles a bit and finished them by soaking them in a mix of turpentine and linseed oil. Seems to have worked well for keeping them from getting goofy in the field. I ended up having two sheaths made for it by JRE.

There's been a fair bit of discussion on OH mods over at KF in the past too. Spork60 has done some mad OH mods.
