So a couple weeks back I sent Todd Begg an email regarding some repairs needing to be done on my knife. He told me to go ahead and send it to him with a note stating the problem. I did that the following day; shipped it out fully insured via 2 day priority.

According to the tracking somebody from his address signed for it. I specifically asked him to let me know when he receives the knife but I didn't hear anything back. Since it was a Friday that he received it I figured I would wait until Monday. So I sent him an email on Sunday night and got no response. I sent him another email last night asking for confirmation that he in fact received my knife.... still haven't heard back from him.

I understand that he's a busy man, but at this point I don't know whether I should keep waiting or should I file a claim ASAP with USPS to cover my arse.

Blade show is right around the corner, he may be preparing for that. Cut him some slack, why would you even consider pushing the panic button so soon, especially if you know he got it according to USPS?

I can understand people being busy but it takes very little time to write a simple email saying he received the knife and all is well. Maybe try to get a contact phone number for him?

That time frame does not justify any concern.

Todd is a good guy, and I am sure a very busy right now (see post by RevDevil)

It's easy to reply to an email, however I think these days we expect it right away not knowing what might be going on, on the other end.

I am sure all is good, just wait for him to reply, he will.

I'm just worried that if I keep waiting and a month later he says, "I didn't sign for any package".... I'll be SOL trying to file a claim with the postal service. As somebody said all I really want is a "yes we got it" confirmation. I'm not asking him to write me an essay or chisel a sculpture out of granite. I'll keep on waiting, but it's unsettling knowing your $1100 knife may or may not be where it's suppose to be.

Agree with this 100,000,000%. The "Sorry...I've been busy" card is played FAR too often.

I am in no way defending Begg Knives because I'm sure he has staff that answers e-mails but when you are dealing with actual custom knife makers (not small production facilities like Begg Knives), they only maybe can carve out one hour a day or every other day at best to answer e-mails so it can take some time getting to them. Knife makers aren't the type of people to be glued to their phones/computers 24/7 so they can answer e-mails immediately.

When 90% of the e-mails are probably pointless (can I get on your closed list, do you have any knives for sale, why don't you do this, why did you do this, etc etc etc etc) they can't spend too much time doing it because it's less time for them to make knives.

If you are truly concerned, do not rely on email. Make a phone call, it makes sense since it is $1100, right? It's still true though, EVERYONE that makes, sells, or markets knives is hauling balls because Blade show is almost here. Not making excuses, just telling it like it is.

I have had also non responded emails from the email listed in his website. You should def give him a call and I think your follow up is needed especially at that amount of money! From what I have heard from close friends who have met Todd he is an A+ guy to deal with.

I do agree with your point for sure...
Good to know he has the knife.

Give him a call as the two other fine gentlemen have said.

Sure it only takes a few minutes to reply to an email but when you receive up to a hundred emails every other day I'm sure you can understand it takes a good chunk of time. Especially when Blade is around the corner and travel arrangements need to be made and getting all the knives finished up in time. From what I know Beggs knives have an excellent reputation and there really shouldn't be any reason for panic especially only after a couple days. I'd be worried if the tracking showed it still was not delivered but looks like it was signed and accounted for so I'm sure Todd will get back to you when he sees your email.

I have never read anything anywhere that would lead me to believe that Todd Begg would be anything but 100% honest in any responses he make about a knife. The thought of Todd claiming he did not get the knife when in fact he did just does not compute.

It is BLADE crunch time, I bet Todd like many other Makers are still in their shops long after quitting time preparing for BLADE. E-mails, orders and honey-do's are secondary......................

You have nothing to worry about, just call Todd when you get a minute.

First of all Todd Begg TI Bodega knives are far from being production knives. They are mid tech knives that are equal to any full on custom knives out there. Secondly Todd is very good at getting back to you when he has the time to read emails. Gearing up for Blade is certainly taking priority at the moment. That is why he has office people that you can contact. I gave The Logical One Mattia's email and the direct phone number for Beggs office. He emailed Mattia and got a response back within ten minutes. Mattia is going to look into the situation first thing Tuesday morning. He assured him that if the knife was signed for it is there and it is safe.
All should be good come Tuesday.

On the subject of Todd, does he have a workshop location in Petaluma other than his home. I am about 20 miles away this week and have always planned a visit but never have made it.

Got to Todd's shop in Petaluma before I came home. Here is a pic of a sweet prototype for the future. Thanks to Todd, Mark,Drew and the gang for a pleasant visit.I need some of those knives.

Glad to see you had a chance to visit his shop despite it being blade show week. That says a lot about them.

Gee I have a good daughter. I just got a Bodega in the mail from my kid. She went up to Petaluma ,unbeknownst to me, and talked the boys into making me a Bogega. Nice custom touches you have to see. I will try to get pictures although it deserves a COOP portfolio, it is so neat. Thanks to all the gang at Begg Knives.
