Indexed screws make the piece look much more "finished" IMHO. If a custom maker can do it for the grip screws on a 1911, surely it can be done on a knife...
Similarly a nice chamfer should be around the hole if the screw is sunk deep.
Filework on a slotted-head screw needs to to be really carefully done, as the straight line defined by the slot sets the bar for the precision of the filework layout (does that make sense?).
Better yet are no screws.
Won't peened pins give you the tightest possible fit?
