using a 60 grit blaze belt i dont get any sparks grinding CPM 154. just a pile of steel wool. is it the cromimum or what. O-1 shure does throu tons.

I saw this in one of my Blade Books. How do you like that new belt? In the Blade book it states that it will last 50 time long them other belts.

the blaze are great. i like the 60 a lot. i feal that if i used any corser grit my knife might get eaten befor i relize it.

I start all mine with 60 grit as well. Though i've been using the cheaper generic zirconia belts from Pops for my 60 grit. The more expensive 60 grits I purchased lasted twice as long, but were more than twice the cost, so the lesser quality belts were actually a better value. That was just my experience, but i haven't used the blaze belts yet either. I do use my belt grinder for a whole lot more than just blades though, and 60 grit is the belt I always use for general grinding. Maybe for just blades the name brand 60s would last much longer.

I like the 60 grit blaze belts..,they'll eat the steel very fast!as mentioned, they cut very cool.i dont find they last much longer though.i run my grinder at the speed of light, that may have something to do with it!

what speed are you runing at.

80 is the highest grit but you can get a 24 grit blaze belt, i think thay call i a gravel road:). man 24 grit that would remove your finger in the blink of an eye

But, I bet the 24 grit would work on forged A2, right?(I got some of them "gravel roads" coming.)

The Blaze belts are very good and don't throw sparks when I use them, but they don't last 50 times as long. I'm not even sure that they last 1.5 times as long as Klonspor zirconia belts whihc would make them a direct replacement. They do seem to allow you to use a finer grit like 60 instead of 36 or 40 for rough grinding.

I don't get hardly any sparks from CPM154. I use the yellow ceramic 60 grit belts from 3M. I buy them from Pop. They last a long time...

CPM steels don't throw sparks when grinding unhardened....regardless of belt.
