No sword canes ?

If you're interested in a Cane sword, check your laws. Cane swords, OTF knives, gravity knives etc typically fall under concealed weapons or will be banned by name or size. Some crappy states will leave it in a gray zone. If they're concealed weapons in your state, more than likely a CCW permit will cover it and you're good to go.

If your a FELON and can't get a CCW, the it's illegal for you to have any concealed weapon on public (or otherwise prohibited) grounds. Someone stating it is blanketed illegal everywhere means either they don't know the laws, haven't looks up other states laws, or have been a felon so long they automatically view life as only what a felon has access to. However, in most of the free states I know of, a CCW will cover your firearm and your cane sword.

So no, they are not illegal everywhere. Do your due diligence. Read your laws. Talk to your state DA. Talk to a lawyer from your CCW insurance people.

Didn't he use a dueling cane, not a sword came? It's been 20+ years since I read any of the Holmes books.
I honestly don't remember that either although it is entirely possible that I have forgotten. Perhaps I should read the books again.

I knew a man in the 1980s that collected antique sword canes.
Walking sticks at times were in fashion.
Today I believe that they would be illegal in most states........even if used as a walking aide.

I would love to have seen those.

Just say, “You wouldn’t part an old man from his walking stick.” Works every time.

How do they all lock into the handle?
The Gundersen and Fayet are pressure fit and they rattle when tapped on the ground. I was told by Burger that's how police check for swordcanes in Europe. The Burger click-locks with a button for release, and does not rattle.

Chris Reeve made some very nice (but of course) walking sticks. Don't think any of them were sword sticks/canes though.
