Okay, I said I would post some No Weld Grinder progress pics a few weeks ago, so I'm just now getting around to it. Funny how that works?! I've made some decent progress, and the PLAN is to finish it up this weekend. That's the PLAN anyway ;)
The motor is a freebie courtesy of my father who used it on one of his biodiesel rigs. Runs great, but needs some fresh wiring and a coat of rattle can. I started on the tool arms and rest tonight, but didn't get any pics snapped... I'll grab a few tomorrow. I've got the numbers on what I've spent, so far, if anyone is interested.

Just a quick update on the progress of the WG (formerly NWG)...
Pretty much had everything ready to go by Sunday afternoon, and was looking forward to profiling some Aldo's 1095 propped up over in the corner, however I ran into a slight problem - I let the smoke out of the motor :( I mentioned before that it was a freebie, so not a huge deal. It seemed to run just fine in some earlier tests, but when I put a belt on the grinder to begin the alignment, the load was just too much for the grinder to start without laboring. I had just considered this as something I saved a few $$ on while getting started, so now it's time for plan B. That said, I talked to some folks around here and someone suggested I speak to Wayne Coe. So I looked him up on the interwebs and gave him a call. Wayne answered on the second ring and we ended up talking for quite some time. Long story short, Wayne lives just south of me, not far at all. I ended up ordering a 2hp 3ph motor and a VFD from him. Wayne was nice enough to invite me down to his shop (when the motor + VFD arrives), bring my grinder and he has offered to help me set it up. Very cool! As you can see from the photos, I was initially setup for a 3-step pulley, and I wondered about a VFD? Guess I'll know now for sure. Anyway, looks like I've lost a couple of weeks before getting started, but I'll not complain about that. Here are the updated pics... by the way, this area is in our barn. Used to be an old milk room back in the day.

too bad about the motor but the VFD should be nice!

I am wanting to build one of these too, very nice WIP

If you dont mind me asking, how much was your VFD and motor?

In this photo, you have a really short distance between the two bearings and a long unsupported shaft

I would change that.

Especially if you have a VFD in the works, think about how you can change it to put the motor in to directly drive the drive pulley.

Very good point about the shaft. We discussed going direct drive with the drive wheel, I hope I can make that change. Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it!
