Just ordered the plans for the No Weld Grinder. Was wondering if anyone on here could tell me exactly what kind of motor to be looking for. I've seen some on Ebay, but I'm not exactly sure what I need to be looking for.
Thanks,

Ideally you want a 2 horsepower, totally enclosed fan cooled (tefc), 1725 rpm motor. That is if you are using step pulleys to control speed. If you are going the vfd route, things are different. Mine isn't tefc so I have to tear it apart and clean it occasionally, but at free, the price was right. You won't be disappointed with the NWG.
When the plans arrive, you will see there is a page explaining what type of motor to get and why.

I guess it depends on what power you will be working with. 110, 220, single or three phase, etc. Personally I prefer a three phase motor with VFD controller for variable speed. I also like Leeson motors since their general purpose in inverter rated. A general purpose Baldor is a little cheaper but not inverter rated although I have used them in the past as such. Surplus Center has a lot of good deals on moters, but their stock varies. As for VFDs go I like KB electronics. There are plenty others but they tend to be push button and plastic, I like knobs and switches.

This is the one I'm getting from Grainger:

It's a Dayton 3HP TEFC 1740 RPM. The NEMA frame is 184T, so I expect to deal with that. I decided to spend the extra for a full 3 HP because I don't want to wish I had later.

edit: decided to go with the 1.5 HP 3450 rpm model, I got such a good deal.
