I've read about Mr Rondeau in several Backwoodsman articles, a little bit on Wikipedia and other sites. Does anyone have anymore information on him? Any thoughts on him? Any "hermits" with stories similar to his, of the 20th and 21st century? I also liked Rondeaus rifle, Remington semi auto.
There was another article from Backwoodsman, about what seemed to be a similar hermit. Forget the name, forget the river he lived on. Supposedly, he entertained passerby on the river at his "castle", and was working on a "dinosaur gun" before he died. One of his buddies, may have been the author, left him for a couple hours to get something for him in town. When he got back, the hermit had passed away, sitting in his chair.
Another Backwoodsman article, there was also a hermit of smaller frame, who lived for years off of park ranger emergency cabin provisions, and local small game. Stole most of what he needed, lived in a hollowed out log for a while, fell off a cliff during a blizzard. Covered some real tough territory. They said he was more than a little ripe and more than a little nuts when they found him.
BTW, I am digging out my back issues of BW to get the names of these guys.
