I'm thinking of making some nomex micarta. Maybe alternating sage green and desert tan. What do you think?

I think it should be pretty tough stuff, and cost a bit too (unless you are scavenging firesuits).

Why? sounds really cool, but regular canvas micarta does not lack any strength it's tough stuf

Any material that does not have some sort of anti-wetting, anti-rot or similar coating should work.

I am not sure about nomexes properties in that regard, . If it sheds water instead of allowing it to soak in, I'd probably not try it.

for example, cordura (treated canvas) won't work and ghillie suit burlap strips were a spectacular failure due the coating on it.

Nomex is a n aramid related to Nylon and Kevlar... MOre like Kevlar than Nylon, but not as tough, but with high thermal and chemical resistance. Should work fine in Micarta. The resin choice is at least as important. :)

Rapt_up - "The resin choice is at least as important." What type of resin would you suggest?
