So this is Spark's baby, and he ultimately makes the decision who his Moderators are...but this could be a useful tool for him.

I nominate Lorien....he has a good head on his shoulders, a pure heart, and he lives here, like 18 hours a day.:D

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

i think two moderators would be better than only one. what about lorien and coop?

hans

what the what?!

Lol. Any civilized society needs authority and traffic lights.

Joe zombie slayer Paranee, Lorien, or RogerP

I'd agree on Joe, Roger and Lorien.
Or Peter Gill as well as a couple others that probably wouldn't want the job.
No matter, this forum moderates itself very well, imo.
I just like being a tiny part of this great community.

You said it, short and sweet - and absolutely to the point. I don't think there could be a better choice, actually. I think no one involves himself in this forum more than Lorien - not as a maker or as a collector, but more as a permanent observer - and always in a very positive manner. I'd vote for Lorien in a split second.

Moderating a forum (this forum) requires, in my opinion, a cool head filled with common logic, and above average intelligence.......along with dedication to the project....and enough spare time to be here damned near 24/7 with no excuses. I don't know to many (any) who possess all those qualities. I can just see Coop cramming still more into his schedule of coaching, maintenance, photography and family. Yeah Right!!! You guys can fill in the blanks on the nominees so far. They are all great guys and super qualified in one or more areas, but I don't see any with the time to devote.

Secondly, unless Spark specifically asks for help by way of nominees, I think it's just a bit presumptuous to be setting the table for him when he hasn't even called us for dinner.

Third, with damned few exceptions we have been fairly well able to moderate ourselves. When the soup gets a little too hot one or more of us generally steps in and says in a nice way "knock it off!" If more needs to be said it generally is invited to email, phone, or PM.

While I would gladly saddle any of the nominees with the responsibility by virtue of my vote, I still think a request from Spark is in order before the election starts.;)

That's my story and I'm stickin' with it.

I think the regular mods on here do a great job already

Everyone knows that I think Lorien is a gift to the custom knife world with his talent for writing, design and his basic love of the knife world :)

I appreciate what I hope was a joking nomination ..... Mr Shaw :) but I am not moderator material nor do I want to be by a long shot :)

I am blatantly here to promote my friends and customs in general.

I have to agree with my beloved Pappy all mentioned besides myself are more than qualified, but I do not think we where asked and let me stress the normal gentlemen that moderate this forum do an excellent job IMHO....... we just had a glitch

What could be more OBVIOUS...I nominate Paul:D:D

Well, it's just discussion - nobody here has the power to make it happen except Spark. Whether this assists him or not is his call too.

FWIW, overall I think this community self-moderates pretty well - but dedicated mods from within the community would be real net benefit. I agree that two mods would be better than one. Lorien and Coop would make an excellent tandem. Gill would be a superb choice as well, though he doesn't spend as much time here as he used to.

Thanks to those who suggested it, but I don't feel I'd be the right choice. I know 2knife will be crushed, but there you are. :)

Hi guys,

That my name was mentioned even once (thanks brightred!) is a privilege. For the reasons Paul Long clearly sees in me, I would not attempt to be in a position of authority, even on occasion.

Paul, I disagree that a self-moderating forum is healthy. If no one is around, I'll roll quickly through that stop sign. Put a cop in my view, and I'm just a bit more vigilant. ;)

Although it is ultimately Kevin's (Spark's) approval, he allows this ship to run smoothly with the many supportive mods he has. He has ALWAYS been open for discussion and/or approval, but we need to be proactive, not him. Starting this thread was a good idea to discuss the possibilities.

Before this thread was started, I was nodding at Lorien's submission and privately wished Paul Long could also play a role.

Paul: Your very presence is calming, and your responses when things get 'busy' are right on.

Lorien always thinks before he posts, and his responses are educated and appropriate. As would be his presence.

Subscribed....

Coop

There is a guy, not sure if he would be interested....

Paulie is pretty much too busy, but if he wanted to, he would be a great Moderator....

Anyway, this guy Cuts Like a Kris is often lurking, and he has a very level approach....do a search.

David Sharp as well

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I very much appreciate the kind words directed my way- thank you!

I love this forum, there is a good atmosphere, interventions of people such as Jim and Paul imposes the respect... This changes the French forums...

Do we currently have a designated and active moderator for this forum?

I haven't seen participation, must less interaction, from the two we have listed at the bottom of the page in YEARS.
I've been on this forum for 6 years and have over 10,000 posts and have had no interaction what so ever with a moderator.

So my point is, that considering the lack of presence from moderators on this forum over the years is probably a good indicator that we don't need one.
Of course we have our little skirmishes from time to time but they are usually short lived and forgotten.

If we do require an active moderator, Lorien would probably make a good one, he certainly puts enough time in. However, I'm usually of the opinion that if something isn't broke, don't fix it.
