Non-bulky fixed blade

Well, it has been ages since I've posted on this forum :D

I wasn't sure how exactly to phrase the subject. I'm looking for a fixed blade knife for self defense with a 4"-5" blade (I've come to the conclusion that the time it takes to deploy a folding knife is unacceptably long for an SD situation). The problem with most knives that meet this description is that they are all fairly bulky, with relatively broad blades (though that isn't the biggest problem), large thick guards and thick oval handles. Usually, the sheaths aren't particularly helpful either.

I'm looking for something more along the lines of a neck knife, except that I've never seen a neck knife with a blade that long (blade length, I feel is of crucial importance in a combat situation). The knife should be slim enough to pass unnoticed if worn beneath jeans (with the sheath attached to the waist of the jeans and the knife between the jeans and the body).

Pretty specific order, I know :D

Any suggestions?

Check out the Nemesis Knives Arch Ally! I use it for a pocket FB. And I would also highly recomend Tom Krein's FB. I use my TK-2 as a pocket FB as well.

Becker Necker, if you can find one. IWB carry with Para cord wrapped handle. Best bang for the buck.

The BM 220 Fixed Resistor is a knife that definately fits your requirements. It has a 3.4" blade and a nicely thin handle profile. The Spyderco "Street Beat" Perin bowie would also fill the bill.

Depending on the money you're willing to spend, a custom might be appropriate. It wouldn't even have to be very expensive, being a minimalist design. Otherwise, as you can see from these suggestions, you may have to fall short on the length requirement. :)

However, for top quality and absolutely minimal bulk, with a variety of carry options, check out Bud Nealy at http://www.budnealyknifemaker.com/intro.html To look through the knives themselves, click on "MCS System" and "MASS".

I'm considering this, actually. I've wanted to get a custom knife for a while now, but never really saw the point of getting a knife that was analogous to cheaper production models that are available. So I think this would indeed be a good opportunity for me to hop onto the custom knife bandwagon.

I have a couple of RJ Martins Kozukas. They are very slim and come
in a carbon fiber wrapped wooden sheath with magnets for retention.

Invisible when I wear my tee shirts not tucked in :)

Tops nite chaser - very slim profile and nice and sharp. Designed for SD too, the handle is good for a number of different grip styles

Do you use the factory sheath for this type of carry? If so, did you add a belt loop or clip of some type; and how?

Check out Peter Atwood's FBs. They are not bulky....I love the Micro Bug Out Blade. He has a great website....take a look.
