Kydex is a mixture of PVC and Acrylic. I have used polyethylene for liners when making Cordura nylon sheaths. You need to know the softening temperature range for forming and the other properties like brittleness for the plastic you want to use.
Mete,
I made a quick sheath for one of my wife's knives and noticed that the softening temperature seemed to be lower. The material also has more sheen to it on the back and on the textured front.I didn't realize Kydex contained Acrylic. Thanks.
If memory serves me correct the plastic stage for PVC is about 150 to 175 F and Kydex( there are several varieties), is in the 225 to 240F range. Check out the site for yourself.
