i need black pants with many pockets, and which i can be sure would not melt. i only saw cotton 5.11, but i don't like the design of that one. (do they have Brad Pitt narrated the vids? :) )

Tru spec 24/7 all the way.

2 front pockets + 2 rear pockets with velcro covers
2 Side/rear pockets (one left one right) that fit most knives.
Large pocket on each side of leg with smaller compartment pockets inside, plus a small pocket on the outside of the larger one.

They are water resistant, at least for a while. After a year of washing/drying cycles the water resistance fades a little. It doesnt go away, it's just not as good as when they're new.

I love them, they make pants and shorts I have both. As far as melting? I have no idea.

Here's some pictures of mine i just took, they are the shorts but the pants look exactly the same..... just pants ;)

You can restore or improve water resistance with something like 303 Fabric Guard or Neverwet. I personally never saw much of a point to that given that I would expect washing it would erode water resistance. Might be helpful if you live in Hawaii during hurricane season but other than that :D.

Care to explain the nonmelting part? I mean, most people would appreciate it greatly if their pants didn't melt or catch fire spontaneously whilst wearing them, that much is a given for 99.9% of us.

I would guess any type of blend other than 100% cotton. Polyester or nylon come to mind.

Welders or firefighters/EMTs who might be around fire or slag need pants that won't melt to their skin (like most synthetics) if exposed to flames, arcs, hot metal, etc.

Did you mean that the other way around? Of all the things cotton can do, melting isn't one.

I meant cotton does not melt, but the man made fabric blends sure will. I've ruined more than a few fleece shirts around campfires:mad: Sorry for the confusion.

I'm aware, I am a wildland firefighter, I own nomex pants and shirts. Not exactly what I would consider EDC casual wear though. Plus the cost is sort of high, I was issued the fire resistant clothes by the department that I reserve for. Historically, the OP does not really give many details and being consistently vague is a strong point.

Carhartt makes flame-resistant cargo pants — 88% cotton, 12% nylon, arc-resistant button closure — not worn by me, don't need it and they aren't cheap.

If price is no object:

Might sound strange to suggest crash armor for motorcyclists, but the entire outer shell is a kevlar blended fabric, which is a bit different from other riding pants that are typically a cotton/poly outer and only has kevlar stitched onto certain areas.

I haven't exposed that to an open flame, but it's meant to provide protection for get offs up to 70 mph, and it's intended to address an issue of certain poly-type textiles melting at high speeds and getting onto your skin. Price is at a premium, but it may be a good deal cheaper if you tell them you don't need the armor.

Plain old Propper BDUs are what I wear most of the time. The tru spec 24/7 are nice. They work for me way better than the 5.11,took back the only pair of 5.11 I ever had. Hated them.

Speak for yourself! As a covert operator, it's nice to have incendiary pants for when things do not go as planned.

Additionally they can be amazingly effective for interrogation. You place your detainee in the pants and voila, instant lie detector!

So true, tie em to a mesquite with a drip torch ready and wait for the truth or lies to come rumbling out.
