the handle looks MUCH better in person, the camera really brings out and exaggerates the flaws
I bought a cheap ceramic knife at harbor freight but it had metal inside the handle, it was a piece around the tang that appeared to help hold the blade in the handle better (it had a very short tang in the handle) im not sure if it was put there so metal detectors would find it, or if it was there solely to help prevent the blade from becoming loose and separating from the handle.
I cut the handle open and removed the blade and got rid of the metal clip.
I then made some micarta scales out of a thick black denim type fabric and a light weight white fabric. (this was my first attempt, so i am VERY pleased with how well they turned out, i only wish i would have used a thicker white material since it doesnt stand out much in person)
The next thing i did was i did a rough cut of the shape i wanted for the handle and then i cut out a spot in the scales for the tang. I then epoxied the knife together and shaped and sanded the handle to the shape and size i wanted
I really had no reason to have a metal free knife, but i still wanted one non the less
however I did find a couple actual uses for it
the fact the blade isnt effected by magnets made it very useful when i had to cut some tape off of a very strong rare earth maget as well as some epoxy that was still soft on the project i was working on. I had originally tried a regular knife but the magnet was way too strong. (it has a pull force of 180lbs)
I have also used it a couple times on wire or stuff close or in contact with electricity where a blade made of conductive material would be very dangerous
