Looking for a non metal mug for drinking tea or coffee while out and about. I like my drinks hot, but burn myself on my metal mugs. I have a couple of the silicone ones from REI, but they are hard to drink from. Thanks! Pics and links always appreciated.

GSI OUTDOORS makes an insulated mug:

I have one. The jury's still out on it though. I find the lid very hard to remove and the cushioning/insulation sits too close to the top edge so I tend to get beverage on it while drinking. The latter can be solved by shimmying the insulation down a bit (It is also nice to be able to remove it for cleaning). For $4-$5 though, it's worth a shot.

I have a GSI insulated mug/bowl that works well as either. It has a "sippy lid" for using it as a mug. Keeps your drink hot and your hands and lips cool.

It's short and squat, so it fits inside many smaller pots/billies. It came as part of GSI's "Ketalist" cook kit.

Stay sharp,

I use a double wall stainless Coleman mug - no good for drinking while in motion, but great for sitting around a campfire.

How about a 17oz. Tervis Tumbler mug with a travel lid?

Hard to beat Tervis Tumblers:thumbup:

Well, you said out and about...I use the GSR 14oz. Lexan mug some.

I've been using this one. It's pretty good as a mug. It lacks a lid but if you are just using it as a mug I don't find it to be a problem. I've also used a 16oz Nalgene as a mug.

I'm old-fashioned and cheap in this category. I like the basic Thermos (or whoever makes them now -- Aladdin sold the license) 8, 12, and 16 oz. mugs. Light, very good insulation, and indestructible.

REI sells a 12. oz version for $4.25. Your local Goodwill or grandmother's house probably has them for considerably cheaper.

edited to add: this is the same mug as the one recommended by Warriorsociologist.

I have a Stanley double mug in poly,,
It has a good top, insulates okay
And I use the outer as a bowl when I need to
Finally found a good travel mug

Stick with metal!!!!
Use gloves, shemag or a bandanna for handling, your lips will eventually toughen up!

If you're going to put a hot beverage in a plastic mug you might want to make sure the plastic doesn't contain BPA.

I like the Nissan 500ml Titanium thermos. The Ti cap/cup is lined with plastic. The whole rig weighs half as much as the contents and keeps the contents hot/cold for hours.

The GSI mug works great. We carry some pieces of Ensolite foam pad to sit on, and also to set our cups on as the base isn't insulated.
