I have and love my issue canteen and cup stove but do not wish to carry it in an urban environment. I can always improvise a stove stand fabricated from things scrounged. I am building a kit Based on a Maxpedition Sitka and need to get some things together for an upcoming project. I'd like to see pics of "civilian" style canteen and cup combinations where the water bottle fits snugly in a cup and both fit snugly in an insulated carrier of sorts and hear your thoughts on them. I'd also like to see how you combine them with your other packs and gear (it is B.F. I have to give knife pic opportunities right :D ).

.

I use a Nalgene bottle and the Space Saver Cup carried in a Tactical Assault Gear pouch on my chest rig.

It works quite well.

Sorry no pics. :(

Maxpedition bottle holder, Snow Peak mini-solist (Ti cup & 700 mL pot), nalgene triton cup and squishy cup (I prefer drinking from the squish to the Ti cup to avoid burn't lips). There is a lid to to Ti-cup and pot that are not shown in the pics. The lid goes in first, the cup nests around the pot, the Nalgene nests in the pot and the stove sits on top.

I have a trianga stove on loan from Rick that takes the place of my super cat stove. In fact, I can fit both the super cat and trianga in there plus my 2 oz of fuel for the stove in the front pocket. Its a good set up!

Oh yeah, if you don't mind a tight fit and want to loose the Ti-cup, a 796 mL diced tomato can (UNICO brand) nests around the pot and it can all be shoved in the bottle holder. This gives you 2 high capacity pots and the diced tomato can is easily modified to be a billy pot.

I like my canteen cup too..its about the toughest cup around. I wonder if someone has links too maybe mil surplus other than US GI. A wide mouth on the canteen would be nice....

Kleen Kanteen 27 oz stainless steel bottle. Fits in Maxpedition products. Fits perfectly over the REI brand Tiware cup. If you'd like, I'll take pictures. Great combo for me and doesn't get looks from sheeple.

Thanks Ken, from your pics I reeeeally like your set-up. That maxpedition bottle holder looks good. I wonder if Nalgene or anyone makes a metal bottle that size?

Sounds good so sure, pics would be great.

Brian,

511 makes a Nalgene-sized bottle carrier that is about half the piice. It isn't insulated/padded and has a buckle closure instead of a zipper. Depending on what you want, this may be an option.

Thanks for that. I have been thinking about this since I posted earlier. I like the looks of the 511 and it would probably be better for my purposes if the parts of the kit aren't made up of matching (same brand) components...could come off more...um...for lack of a better word "yuppy-ish" than what I am going for here. I'll have to see if they have khaki or brown though...I'm wanting to stay away from tactical black and the camo military look for this.

Thanks, that Condor looks almost just like the Maxpedition with extra pockets. I like that too! Hmmmm decisions decisions. This is going to take more thought than I expected.

OHHH.. Like that 511 carrier. I'm using a BlackHawk "Aussie Kit Pouch" with 1 qt Nag but it looks more like an ammo carrier than you may want. I suggest staying away from the OliCamp space saver cup brand..thats the one we talked about in an earlier thread that seem to suffer metal fatigue an cracks down the side. Sorry to report that 4 of my 6 have done this. Now BF member Lupa Wolf knows another brand in the same style that seem to have no such issue. Give her a shout and get her input. best of luck anrkst

I heard a great line at a "tactical" supply store just outside a local base. I was grumbling that their selection of OD was pretty low and the clerk replied,
"Coyote Brown is the new tactical Black, and Olive Drab is SOOOO last deployment!"
:D

Thanks Emmit, already talking to Lupa :)

Thanks for that, that's funny but about right for me. I am definitely getting a khaki pack and would like a Khaki bottle carrier if I can, but I would definitely prefer coyote brown over black or camo for this.

Thanks for these, the one was taking forever to open so I'll have to go back to it but I really like how J.W. has his set up. It's right in line for the modular approach I am going for to change the look and appearance from time to time. I saw the same thing in Ken's and am leaning toward the Condor for the same capabilities without looking ....all matching....so to speak.

Those two look pretty good. I'm going to check them out. I'm in the market for some more water bottles and carriers and this thread has really helped.
