Good morning,

I'm hoping you guys can give me some advice and recommendations.

I would like to purchase my first pocket knife. I was hoping to get some recommendations of models which don't have an aggressive style. The reason for this is that my wife isn't really fussed on knives in general and I like to get something which she will feel comfortable around and I can eventually convert her to this fantastic hobby and community.

I would have went for a Swiss army knife however due to arthritis and some hand issues I just can't manage the nail nick opening mechanism.

I've been doing some research and quite like the looks of a sheepfoot blade design as I don't think it looks too pointy. I have looked at the likes of the spyderco roadie however I know it will be too difficult for me to open because of the lack of a thumb hole.

I have a decent budget of $200 and would be happy to spend that if needed to get a suitable knife for my needs, however I'd be equally happy spending less 😂👍

The only other knife I looked at was the crkt pilar which I really like however I would feel a lot more confident in buying this or another model after some help from you knowledgeable members.

I hope I've given you enough information, however feel free to contact me if you need anything more.

I'm really hoping you can help me out and I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you TG

I have the perfect knife for you. Non-threatening and easy to deploy:

Microtech-Exclusive-UTX-70-DE-OTF-Dessert-Warrior-Collectibe-Pink-Blue-BHQ-174708-td.webp

I knew it would happen. I was gonna suggest the elementum cause it's in the price range but not a sheepsfoot. I don't think there is a sheepsfoot dessert warrior yet?

Spyderco Para 3 or Delica 4. They can still be found under 200 bucks I think. If you’re unfamiliar with the lock back mechanism, check out first on YouTube how it works and stay safe.

I’d recommend knowing knife laws in your area as well. Lots of politicians out there that never touched a sharp object in their life fretting over blade length, lock type, opening method, etc.

All joking aside, how about a Kizer Mini Sheepdog:

They are good quality, cheap, small, non- threatening, and easy to flip open.

For a first pocket knife, and you have arthritis, I would have to recommend in my opinion a flipper system, preferably self-assisted. The one knife that comes to mind would be a Kershaw leek. Or a link. Non-threatening but a very good first knife. Both knifecenter and Blade HQ have them. They go for around $100 and up. I think their quality knives made in USA. Good luck with whatever you decide

Maybe I view this different than most, but I have never seen a threatening pocket knife. To me, it is the person holding the knife that brings the threat factor.
Pick yourself up any quality slip joint or even traditional style lock blade and you will be covered.

If a non locking blade isn’t an issue, go look at the Kershaw Federalist. It’s not as strong as most other knives that are non locking and there’s enough blade to pinch it to open.

Spyderco Chapparal or Dfly Wharnie or Sage, something with a leaf blade
Microtech UTX 70, OTF dagger blade, very useful, but I use it around coworkers, management, old women, all good cause its so small.
Ontario RAT 2

"CA Legal" Espada XL with the 2 inch blade offers much handle room
