Non traditional problem for a collector of traditional knives

In a recent threaad, I mentioned that I had picked up my first Eisenhower knife. A Lime green case Ike knife. My wife saw it, liked it, and now claims it as her own.

This afternoon, I started thinking about it and she has done this with my:

Redbone Case peanut
Camillus Abalone Half Congress
Queen checkered MOP peanut
Case Small Stokman
Green Spyderco Jester
Leatherman Micra

I am sure there are others, but do not remember them at the moment.

Anyone else have a spouse that makes fun of you for obsessing and collecting, yet swiped some of your favorites?

I have the opposite problem, Ed. My wife appreciates the knives I have and even the ones I give her but it's like pulling teeth to get her to carry one in a pocket or a purse.

I guess it's like two sides of a coin...only you win either way it comes up. :p

I bet that's a problem most of us here have faced at one time or another. My wife has claimed as her own the following knives -

horn handled Laguiole del' Artisan
Kerry Hampton desk knife
John Landi Bushcrafter

In a way I'm glad that she claimed these knives. It means that as much as she teases me, she's also been listening along the way and now appreciates a good, sharp knife.

Interesting thread.
My wife is not an afficianado of knives, but she does use the heck out of them. Embarassingly more so than I ever have. Early in our marriage she was a groom and trainer at a large horse barn. She used the knife I gave her (a Spyderco) with such gusto I was constantly cleaning, sharpening, and oiling it. Now she power gardens a large field for the local farmer's market and for private shares. I got her an A.G. Russell pruner a couple years ago and it already looks 20 years old and the tip is snapped off.
I sheepishly must acknowledge that she has many more miles of actual knife use than I probably ever will.

My problem isn't that my wife claims one of my knives as her own as a permanent posession but rather, she will take a knife from my desk to use temporarily but doesn't tell me about it and then I go nuts looking for it thinking I've misplaced it.

My wife is more like Blues'. She carries everything in her purse but... I did finally get her to add a SAK "swisscard"(?) knife with flash, pen, etc. to the bag.

After I die I told her she could have this beauty, a Koji Hara LLMOP/3.125", which she'll probably wind up taking to the airport with her one day (which is why I want to be already dead...)

Too funny, Mike. (That's why I've given instructions to my wife to contact Gus or one of my other blade brothers if the unforeseen should come to pass.)

Alas, even the swisscard has ended up back in my pile.

My wife took a Benchmade 530 from me. She likes the more modern ones. I am excited she is taking to my hobby. Sometimes when we are heading somewhere and she drives, I get to hold her purse.:o Only until we get out of the car of course.:D

My girl took a spyderco kiwi from me. She still has it in adition to a pink sak I bought her when we went to a small knife show.

My wife has claimed a Spyderco Delica for general house duty and has a Spyderco Assist in her van. She recently said that she would like a knife for the van like the one in the house (another Delica). She said that it is useful to have. My wife is a girly girl, so for her to even notice or comment (let alone appreciate) one of my knives is a total surprise.

HAHA this thread makes me laugh. I also have tried and tried to get my wife to carry some form of blade. My only win is a Wenger Swiss Army with nail clippers she keeps in her car. She does have one valid reason not to carry one in her purse as she is a lawyer and would forget about it when walking into court.

My wife won't carry/use a knife, other than kitchen knives, of course. She has snatched a flashlight or 2 or 3 & yrs ago took a handgun of mine as her own, but no knives.

Entertaining thread.

Yep, same problem here...
Knives and 1911 45's are both subject to sprout legs. Yes she can shoot them, and does carry. She went to a Glock though for edc, after I finally convinced her they were easier to carry. It was a polite way to say that I didn't want her scratching up any of my 1911's :D

My wife has a pink SAK Classic, and she takes it camping. She usually won't carry it any other time; although when we're camping, she'll still ask me for my knife for some little chore.

thx - cpr

My wife always keeps a pocket knife in her purse. Currently she has a Vic Farmer and a dual action auto. And I know she has a hobo knife somewhere that she convinced me she needed worse than I did. In the past she carried a stiletto for a while and a couple of others which I can't recall.

At one point when we hadn't been married long, she had a knife that I made her give back to me. She had taken a Colonial stockman that had belonged to my dad and was carrying it. When I realized it was missing I kind of freaked out looking for it. It's the only knife I have that I never carry. I just can't bear the thought of losing it. She didn't know what it was, and took it to carry because it is old and worn and looks like it's not worth much. Which is true to anybody but me. To me it's priceless.

I got it back and told her she could have any other knife I have except for that one. And she has taken me up on it. Several times.

My ex just recently told me she has decided she wants to start her own collection. She has been carrying the pink Leek or pink Boker I bought her daily and has decided she wants to collect just pink knives...my collection at least is safe. However other than a few Cases there is is not a huge number of pick scaled knives out there...going to be fun helping her grow the collection.

The year we got married, my wife mentioned one night she might like to have a little SAK like mine (my Classic) to carry in her purse. Of course I got on the computer and ordered her a nice translucent blue one within about five minutes of the conversation. :-) I'm proud to say she still carries it and is hell on stray threads on the kids' clothes.

I don't have a wife but i do have a lovely daughter, now nearly 5.
beginning when she was just old enough to sit on my lap, she has been my companion looking at knives here and on ebay and dealer sites. she helps me open up the arriving ebay knives and at about 2 began claiming some as her own. she now has about 30 good knives in HER collection. she checks them out frequently and always wipes them down before putting them back in HER knife roll.
she also uses the kitchen knives (mostly Custom, like Snody or Harner) to cut up fruit, veges, meat, at every opportunity.
the occasional visitor expresses concern about allowing a small child to "play with knives". i enjoy dismissing their concern with "well, she's got 3 years of experience". but i do keep watch to make sure her grip is correct and fingers are safe. she can also correctly describe a knife to some degree, like, "lockback", "stockman", etc.
it's very fulfilling to share my hobby and passion for knives with my daughter.
i doubt we would be free to do all this were there a woman in the house.

Oh, yes. I don't think your issue is as unusual as you think.

Having said that, my wife's not particularly emphatic in making fun of my "knife habit."
