None Concealed rig for BK14???

Whew, some non shavers in here.

I've carried knives since I was about 8. It was a different world back then. Just a word of advice, if you do have a knife on you, and you are questioned about it, be polite, make sure instead of knife, you use the word tool. If a LEO wants your knife, politely hand it over. Show them you are a responsible person.

Its when you come off like an ass that the trouble really starts. If you want to be a member of the community, you need to act like it.

Other than that, be safe, have fun and use them knives.

Thanks. I have been told that if I'm polite and respectful I should be ok with police if they query it. What Happens it a cop want to take my knife?? Is there a way to get it back?? Can he just do that??

i respect ya for asking about this vs the whole "i know it all" attitude that seems to be abundant nowadays with younger folks. my only advice has already been mentioned, be respectful, make sure you state that it is a tool, and be prepared to give a good answer when asked why you carry a knife. as a youngster i delivered newspapers and needed a knife for cutting bundles, so it wasnt an issue.

its a shame that a kid nowadays even has to worry about something so trivial as this. if it was a pair of pliers you wouldnt be looked at twice, but if you do have your knife taken away, i bet a parent/guardian could retrieve it for ya.

I'd problem get into trouble for a pair of pliers too, I don't think I can deliver news papers untill I'm 15 here in Cali. Otherwise I would have have a job, More money for knives!!!

Thanks again every one for you input

I carried a SAK from when I was about 6. Of course that was about 30 years ago...
Only once did I do anything stupid, but fortunately it never came to anything. Regretted that little lapse in judgement ever since.

In my state any 3" knife is legal concealed, folder or fixie. I've wondered about the definition of 'concealed' when it comes to exposed belt clips etc. Story told is longer is ok un-concealed, but I dodge the issue by sticking with 3-inchers for everything except MAYBE hunting on private land (which I have to drive to).

I started carrying when I was 8 or 9, I'm 19 now, so about 10 years ago....still changed a lot in those short years though.....

When I lived in England I could legally carry a SAK, but even if an adult pulled out a SAK Classic they'd get funny looks and people being distant

You said the Boy Scouts you've seen are less than ideal, but my question to you is what area do you live in? Do you live smack dab in the middle of San Diego? Or out in hills across the street from a vineyard?

If you join Scouts, or find a Venturing Crew (co-ed program brought to you by the Boy Scouts of America, yet completely different) when your 14, you can apply for a job at a local or not so local Boy Scout summer camp, I made about $600 over the summer last year, and had a ton of fun. This year I have offers for $680, and next year I'm gonna apply to work at Philmont Scout Ranch out in New Mexico, starting salary is over $900 a month (you have to be 18 to work there), and they like retaining people.

If you want a real job and to help sculpt the future sets of Boy Scouts into mature young men, with ideals, values and morals that match your own and many others (mine and yours aren't so different), then you make more money, granted not as steady as a paper route and much more demanding, get to have more fun, and get to meet a TON of awesome people!

One thing you should note, most camps don't pay 14-15 year olds, they are considered CITs (counselor in training), there for your pay is the experience and training you receive, but if you put in 2 years as a CIT, you may get a starting salary of $150 per week, which is double what I made with only 9 months experience in Scouting.

If you have more questions, just shoot me an email, or you can ask around, I know Derek is an adult leader for a Scout Troop in the North East (PA I think?), and he likes the program.

West Virginia actually. I think there are very many different styles of Scouting out there, from super laid back and relaxed to the very militant. Our troop here is pretty laid back, but I have seen others that are much more disciplined. Ultimately it depends on what you would like to do. I live in a town of 100,000, and there are several choices here for Scout troops. I suggest checking out the different troops in your area until you find one that fits. Your local council office can get you the number to every troop in your area without much hassle. If you need any help shoot me an email. Good on your for being as responsible and mature as you have been, it is a good thing to see these days in one so young.

I CALL TOTAL BS ON THE HIGHLIGHTED SENTENCE!!! Gulf Ridge Council (80 or so mile coverage from Tampa towards the East and North) is beyond disorganized, but if you want to find all the local REGISTERED (updated by national) units then follow this link: Be A Scout!

Just type in your 5 digit zip code and it will tell you all the units within a 50 or so mile radius, what council each unit is in, and who/how to contact that unit.

heh, our council just got nixed. Among other things, they were losing track of troops, they were dysfunctional like you wouldn't believe, an were about 75 tousand dollars in debt. That wasn't a typo. Seventy-five thousand dollars
None of it was accounted for, nobody even knew what it was going to.
I'm thinkin it went to bottles of Dom and caviar for the high crowd.
As far as the legality goes, I have been carrying a knife every day since I was eight, outside of school, courthouses (gotta get ID) and airports. I have never had anyone comment on them. I had cops complement me and ask me where to get a knife like mine on a regular basis when I was thirteen. That wasn't too long ago.
I've gotten to the point where I have tried to raise as much controversy as possible legally. I wear tactical pants, carry a tactical bag, have a BK11 in my pocket, and have a Surefire G2L in a V70 holster and a Leatherman on my belt. Never gotten a negative remark from any authority figure.

What council was that? Was it to many things added to fast or poor management? Or a combination of both and more? Any how, you have my sympathy for your lost council, I just hope you weren't working for them in a paid position. Did the next council over take over or is there a plan to try and revitalize the your lost council?

I honestly don't remember the name, sorry. I didn't work for them, thankfully.
Incredibly poor management was what took them under, so the next council has taken over. There is no hope with the old council, nobody around here wants to be responsible for the screwups of the last management. I, to be quite frank, will not miss the old council, the training stunk, the instructors from the council were all jerks, and of course there is the issue of our boys not ever having any credit for anything they ever did, for lack of paperwork. When they turn in their Eagle application, everything will be questioned because there was literally NO documentation whatsoever.
The sympathy is always appreciated, but not needed. The new management is doing an excellent job.
Oh yeah, and as far as the confiscation goes, yep. They can do that. Chances are that a parent or guardian can get it back at the police station.

Wow. My biggest gripe about our local office is the lady you have to deal with is kinda grouchy. Glad we don't have one like those though.

You should see the BS politics that I have to deal with to get a merit badge or work in an area I want to at summer camp, I got stuck in the kitchen all last summer because the program director wanted to hire 10 people before me and the camp director hired me as a paid CIT, and then halfway through camp there was a change in cooks, went from the best cook I ever met to the she-devil herself, back up to a really good cook with the she-devil trying to regain control, and said she-devil threatened me when I was mopping to close to her feet, her threat was to shove the mop where the sun don't shine, so yeah, you got it good by comparison to me, and I got it good by comparison to thatotherguy.

Anyhow, I'm off topic, but on topic, I hope we helped answer your question about carrying the 14 without concealing it.

lol that's the way our summer camps are too...
it was not an uncommon occurrence to hear a bit of yelling every day at every meal from the kitchen, and once there was this freakishly loud slap noise...
I still hope that someone just hit a pack of meat, and this was two years ago. It was loud from where I was sitting, across the (quite large) mess hall
