I'm thinking we might be able to put a Typhoon together for her...that should be pretty high quality and "only" ~40 dollars....

Er... I'm pretty sure it's a lot more than 40 bucks. Isn't it 70? I may be wrong. Anyhow... you can pimp up the typoon and boy oh boy can it look good (if you take the time). I'm thinkin' bout getting one and having someone help me resize and reprofile the blade and handles so I can have a mini without paying $400-500 for a knife the size of my eyeball.

I think the preassembled ones are 70...from edcknives...well, looks like it's the same everywhere....hmm....well, I guess there's always the Jaguar Classic...I think I'm thinking too far out...she hasn't even played with a bali yet....I'm trying to occupy myself away from Trig and the wait period for my spyderfly...as I slowly drift into trig induced bali deprived insanity.

Yeah, I know what you mean about smaller balis....when I went bali searching, I was set on the benchmade 31...but it would have taken roughly 350 dollars to get a smaller blade. I'm okay with my tools, but I've never done any real knife work other than adjusting screws and etc. I'm not intimidated by the project, really, but I'd really rather not screw up a knife for someone else.

Any idea how much the szabofly will cost?

Welcome!

There are a lot more women here than some of the guys think! Lots of us just lurk around and don't post too much (part of that may be that we are busy doing other things..) :)

Also, if you keep your eyes open at shows you'll see that women are all over in the knife industry -- Joyce from Spyderco has been mentioned already, and she's great.

i've heard about some issues with the knifekits typhoons having the pins wear down and break... not sure if it's an isolated case or a design flaw but i'd look into that before getting one.

i like my BM42 :) might get a MT dragonfly but the handles seem a bit too light.

Yeah, I've heard some complaints about the sub-tachyon knives....but it may only be because they're constantly being compared to the tachyon....I'm going to be trying a benchmade bali again today or tomorrow because I'm having some defect issues with my spyderfly and think about returning it. Haven't heard much in the way of typhoon problems...but they're probably not as noticeable as my spyderfly problems, which cost about the same, so the typhoon is probably a better choice. I'm still thinking jaguar classic though. It'll have to wait, as she changed her mind to a Miss Army kit. Almost the same thing anyway.

I've never seen so many grins in the same thread. :D

But seriously, try to convert some of your girlfriends for us. We should have some kind of reward program like they have when you get your friends to switch cell phone companies.

Oh, and the Griptilian is a really cool knife. I prefer the bright green handle and drop point blade myself, but it's a really nice knife in any configuration.

get her a vic swiss memory. i got mine one and she loves it. it's practical. she uses it all the damn time to move computer files around and to open boxes

Those are pretty cool, but she already has an ipod shuffle with half a gig of storage and flash drive capability, so it would be unecessary. She's really into the sewing kit on the miss army knife. The miss army knife reminds me of those kabar fixed blade clones I used to buy when I was a kid, with an empty hilt to put gear in. She's just building her collection...she's off to a good start....she's maintaining diversity among the knives, that's good....she's got a small assisted opener and a mid sized axis lock tanto and soon a variation on the swiss army knife. Plus, you know, they have to match her outfits. Maybe we can take the belt clip off and paint it.

Well, my real name is Pamela. I flit in and out of here occasionally. Got into this stuff trying to sharpen little wood carving knives, and now my friends are afraid to help out in the kitchen for fear of loosing a finger on a deba or santoku ^-^

I am a chef and have a Kai Santoku. It is the best knife I have ever used and seldom use any of the other 40 or so kitchen knives I have including a full set of Global!

Psh, my knives do not have to match my outfits, and I would never ever paint a knife. Yes my collection is growing, but I'm going to have to slow down on the spending seeing as in a couple of weeks I'll have to start paying for rent at school.

My wife doesn't post but she carries a Kershaw (Chive or Blackout) nearly everywhere she goes. There's also a very cool lady (Hey Gin) over on the Himalayan Imports forum. You'll be in a distiguished minority. Welcome, again.

Frank

for this? How is this offensive and why didn't the person have the nerve to sign their name?
