Noob needs help for EDC!

For under $100, I would look at the Spyderco Delica 4 and the Ontario Rat 2. They are way under $100 but give you a lot of knife for the money and both are small enough to work well with dress pants.

If you can stretch you budget, I would look at the ZT 0450/0450CF or the Benchmade 940 series. Both are great smaller knives with a high level build quality and both handle like dreams. Smooth and lightweight. But you're getting up around the $180 mark.

I'd like to 3rd (or 4th) the Spyderco Chaparral. Good luck to you and welcome aboard!

For the $100 price point, I'd recommend, since you like the brand, a Spyderco Manix 2 LW in S110V. For 100, the steel is an AMAZING value, and it is featherlight.

Mine has served me well for a couple years. Good luck and welcome to the (wallet) suck!

Ok so I've narrowed it down to 2 knives and I'd like to see what thoughts are on my strategy. A bunch of people have mentioned trying out a few different knives, seeing what work so, and going from there. I know I said I want o stay at $100 or less, but bear with me......

I'm thinking of getting a Benchmade Mini Griptilian AND a Spyderco Chaparral. What does everyone think of this? Are these knives different enough that I'll get a good feel for different features? If I don't like one or either are they easy enough to sell? I think it's more likely I just end up keeping both since that's just the way I am, but let me know what you think of going this route. Again, any and all input is much appreciated!!!!

I have the CF Chaparral and it's my Mon-Fri gents/office folder. I do not have a grip/mini-grip YET, but I have other axis locks and I'm thinking about the full size 20CV model. And yes, they are different enough that you'll appreciate both. Nice tight Spydie lockback and the free swinging Benchmade Axis. Buy both, keep both :p

I think that will give you a good idea of what you like. both are a bit modern classic in my opinion, and both are easy to gift or sell off. The main upside is that because there are very similar knives in differing sizes from that point, you won't be struggling to find something that fits better if needed.
