Hi All,
First off thaks for having such an excellent forum with so much detail, I found you all by searching on who makes the best kukri around. After browsing the postings here I placed an order with HI for an M43, so quick question if anyone has time to answer:

How long should I expect to wait until the knife arrives? It seems the M43 is out of stock so I am not familiar with how that will look for final delivery.

Thanks again and sorry if this question was addressed in posts I have yet to discover.

M43 is possibly the most popular model and they will not be restocked til midseptember--- when a knife is in stock it only takes a couple of days for auntie to get it to you.

price is not shipping included. though it is far below the actual value of the blade you will get-- if you are patient you will be very satisfied!

Thanks Gehazi, I found the shipping sticky - am looking forward to getting my hands on one of these.

This is the way a person should introduce his or herself to the forum :D , glad to have you here with us theobvious , do not hesitate to ask questions or discuss the khukuri or other HI products, we are all big fans here. You not only get the best knife for the money but you help a fair trade company that directly provides for its workers in ways other companies simply do not.

Gehazi, sorry Bro, I need to correct.

If you order from the site, S&H is included within the Continental USA. If foreign, then Auntie will contact the buyer and specify the additional shipping costs.

If you purchase a DOTD, Blem, or Special Run, off of this forum, then cost of shipping is usually around $20.00+ within the Continental USA. If foreign, then Auntie will contact the buyer and specify the additional shipping costs.

As Gehazi said, the M43 is currently backordered, and will not arrive until sometime in September 2014, per Auntie.

Once it arrives, and payment has been remitted and received by HI, Auntie has magic powers with the USPS, and your package will usually arrive 2 days after she gets it, of course, this is in the USA, but that's pretty quick!

Welcome, and please give us a review and some pics of your new acquisition when it arrives.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think Purchases from the HI website include USA shipping, DOTA items do not include shipping.

Thanks folks, cannot believe you all already responded, I really appreciate the assistance. OK so I will not see my M43 till past mid-September and not sure I can wait to witness the HI quality first hand :D Is there a way to see what is in stock or is that limited to the DOTD postings?

cul4u01 is correct.

The best way to know what is in stock is to ask Auntie Yangdu what she has. If you are interested in something it is best to ask if she has one or knows if/when one will be available Other than that The DOTD postings are always something she has right in front of her.

I have an email out to her now, thanks again. Another quick question, is there a thread on custom sheaths? The standard sheath does not allow carry with a backpack very easily I would imagine and I would be needing that kind of storage option.

Fire off a PM or message to Pugs75. Operators are standing by and you won't be disappointed. He will need the knife for proper fit.

We have a few other fine leather benders here too and kydex also but I have no firsthand knowledge or experience with their stuff although pictures and rumors indicate it's top notch as well.

Awesome, thaks Bawanna - once I have the blade I will follow up with Pugs75, as a heads up the only two items in stock right now are a WW2 and an 18" Ang Khola so I am going to wait for my M-42... anxiously.

Here is an example of what Pugs75 can do as an alternative to the conventional sheath. Beautiful bombproof and Sunday go to meeting classy!

nice rig ndog!, can you shoot me a email with the details on what color/finish that is, and if you dont mind, approx what a sheath like that costs. i need to learn to speak pugs language, rather than when he says " what kind of sheath do you want?' and i reply like a fool, "i dunno, a regular leather one">_<

Good news is that Pugs is VERY good at helping you figure out how to tell him what you want. There are a few threads of his work in the cantina I believe here are a couple:

There are some other leather makers around as well that are good. But Pugs as a "regular" (regular as in around here often not as in normal like so few of us are) gets my vote for making seriously top quality stuff.
Here are some images of my IBBB I was fortunate enough to get Bawanna and Pugs to assist in maximizing the beauty of.

Since you're a self-proclaimed "noob" who chose an M43 as your first khukuri, I thought this might be interesting:

A guy named wildmike at this forum used an M43 extensively during his years of living in the wild. The M43 was his primary blade.

"This is the M43 Kukri I used to build a couple trappers cabins and several dozen other shelters during my several year survival living slog...

...It chops like a maniac while being very fluid and nimble in the hand. It's point is on centerline of thrust with the hand in a natural position which makes it even more efficient in combative applications. As to utility the Kukri is more versatile than any other single tool I have ever found. It even makes a terribly efficient drawknife, which comes in handy when making bows and throwing sticks. It is still my favorite knife, though I have several more these days...

...I camped out around 20 miles or so from the closest towns...

...Surviving with the M43 as my primary blade was not really a problem, but, I had very well established survival skills to work from. The M43 is just a highly efficient tool for the purpose giving an unbelievable amount of utility for its size and weight...

...If I were again in a situation where I was likely going to be building survival shelters, cooking outdoors on a small fire or improvised stove I'd be taking the kuk hands down."

Steve nailed it. The first thing I thought about was WildMike and his adventures using the M-43.

Yeah I am very excited to see this beast first hand and get out and test it on some unsuspecting wood, I will post pics and my initial thoughts once I have it. Its hard to wait but perfection takes time and this thing seems perfect for what I wanted.
