So im 14 and love collectiong knives i know young age. I dont have a big budget and ill have is a bench grinder yikes im wondering if i can make my first knife with a bench grinder and id buy nice handle wood . Im a total noob at it and am just trying to give a go at it.

There is a lot to learn before any machine touches a piece of metal. I suggest reading lots and asking lots of questions. See if there is a Maker within walking distance of your home and trade off cleaning the shop for knowledge of knife making.
Taking steel to a bench grinder with zero experience will bring lots of experience to your local Emergency room!!!

I did some research and found a class right near me it cost alot of money i could probably do it for my brithday well i could. ill paste the descritption of the class and you tell me what you think! In this course for beginners, students will learn the basics of making Damascus steel. This project-driven class will cover selecting steel that will make a good pattern, making a billet, using flux, welding by hand, pattern manipulation, and etching. Each student should complete at least one Damascus Blade, heat treat, etch, and final finish. If time allows more complex patterns and techniques can be demonstrated.

James,

Welcome to the forums, you probably want to post your questions for making a knife in the Makers Shop Talk area here on Bladeforums.
You will find a lot of help there.
The Custom Hand Made Knife area here is for more of custom knives that are done and made by the pros.
Some do show work in progress here, but MOST of those are from advanced makers.

Good luck with your build, it's not easy to make a good knife, even though some make it look that way.
