I want to try making a friction folder. It will be done completely by hand with files, sandpaper, etc.

I understand 1080 is a steel that is recommended for beginners, is it an adequate steel to use on a folder?

Also, Are there blade shapes that you would recommend someone with no exp try or not try? I am thinking about a wharnie, but am not sure if it would be easy/hard for a beginner.

thanks

like you i am a noob in knife making , and is reading and hunting down info so i make the perfect knife .

but in term of design and production i had been doing so for many years . one thing i personally believe is that . when it come to design sometime is good to be daring and create your own design or try new thing . in really all part of the fun of making something .

i understand the info gap between knowing and guessing but the joy of just creating someone yours would be really the greatest fun of all in all craft and smith :)

Good luck :) everyone started as a noob :) the only different is noob got more freedom of error

Just ordered a bunch of stuff...I think everything I need materialwise to do this:

1 x Button Head Torx Screw-SS 0-80X1/4 (50 ct)
3 x Stop Pin - 1/8" X 3/8"
3 x Step Pivot Pin - 1/4"
1 x Micarta-Linen - Red Piece 12" x 5" x 1/8" thick
1 x Sheet - Nickel/Silver 0.020" x 6" x 9-3/4"
1 x 440C Stainless Steel- 1/8" x 1-1/2" x 12"

ok...maybe more than 1 :)
