Noooo! My lovely bm610 rukus discontinued!

Thanks APF for the find,
I'm going to do some more shopping around to see if I see a black pe version for a bit lower, otherwise I guess I have no choice but to buy from that store.

Tjsulli,
Awesome congrats on getting the last black pe 610 Rukus from knifeworks!

Fellow Knife Collectors,
There is a lesson to be learned here:

DON'T BE LAZY LIKE ME! DON'T HESITATE! DON'T LET HER GET AWAY!

This is the first year they are not in the catalog.

Oh, yeah I know that this is the first time it hasn't been in the catalog, but I thought it was announced/hinted a long time ago, like the Skirmish.

Skirmish was discontinued a year before the Rukus was.

But yes it has been known for several months that the Rukus was being discontinued.

Keep an eye open on the fleabay sonny... I bought a 610SBK a while back (I know its not PE) but only paid 123.00 for it... Just recently picked up a 615 from local forum member and glad I did, I love these blades and sad to see them go but am looking forward to getting my hands on one of those new 741 Onslaughts LUM collaborations...

I jumped and got these two last fall, when I heard the sad news. I'd always wanted one, but never got around to it. So I figured I'd best get while the getting was good.
The top one from a eBay dealer and the first production was going a begging here on the exchange. They was both around 160 shipped, each. One of the best B/M's IMO.

Hmmm.... I just put my 615 up FS but I may take her down and hold onto her now for a while. Still, it doesn't surprise me that they disco'ed them since they are great knives with many who love them... ;|

Seems like they've been going up in price on ebay too. I recently got a full-sized uncoated one and love it. I rounded the handle a bit, but it's great now. Awesome knife for sure. It could probably even serve for most outdoor tasks pretty well.
The new Lum has caught my eye, but it doesn't have s3ov, or the cool multi-color/material handle.

For scale, here is, L-R, a Buck Custom Shop (BG-42) 110, a BM 610 Rukus, and a BM 630 Skirmish. Yeah, the Rukus is a pocketful.

And here is my trio of Ruki, T-B, 610, 615, 6150:

They are all discontinued now - get'em where you can. My local pusher still had a few of each of the top two for <$200 + s/h last week.

Now, for more scale comparison - for the aforementioned 760, here are my Ti frame-locks, L-R, Buck 172 Mayo TNT, BM 635BK mini-Skirmish, BM 630 Skirmish, BM 760Bk L-Ti, and Kershaw JYDII SG2/Ti. The 760 is a nice size - but it isn't a Skirmish, much less a Rukus.

The 610 Rukus is my pocketable 'bushcraft' knife. The 615 mini Rukus is a great EDC. The 6150 is just plain scarey... but, it was a Christmas present from my wife.

And most likely will continue to rise when they start to dry up in the market.. I have seen recent Benchmade 630's sell for as much as 300 dollars on the bay.. which is crazy at that price you could buy a nice CRK...

The partially serrated/black is still at gp knives for 160. How has your luck been with the clip? I've always been doubtful of the design...

I have found that the retention of the clip is not as stout as I would like it to be and does seem a bit flimsy but where it sits on the handle it allows it to conceal in a pocket extremly well I have seen where people have made custom clips for the Rukus series. I have not experienced any problems with the clips so far so have not felt the need to replace them IMO the Rukus design is one of the best blades benchmade was making along with the 630 which both are now RIP... Glad I got one of each..

Thanks. It's odd that they are discontinuing it... seemed to be doing pretty well. Any opinions on BM's new stuff?

The clip is not the greatest. But it works. I can't say for sure if it's the slot (so you can get to the screws), the thin part (that actualy connects with the handle), or the fold-over, low-rider style in general, but one of those issues (or a combination) leave the pocket clip with some slight movement. Basically the design of this clip is just not solid like a standard BM clip.
On mine, I removed the clip and bent it into itself to give it more grip on the pocket and less noticable movement. That worked well. -I'm not sure if it was the slight bend, or just that I've gotten used to it, but the clip doesn't bother me in the slightest at this point. Plus, it is a low rider clip, so that never hurts -especially on a beast like this.
Also, before I got one, I read that you couldn't get paracord through the lanyard hole. I was able to get a paracord "shell" through mine pretty easily. You might have to melt the shell down to a point a bit, but it will go.
Lastly, if you have any issue with the grip, which is wide and somewhat square, it is very easy to file and/or sand down either the g-10 or micarta to your liking. -Mine still looks pretty much stock, but feels much better in the hand. (Try to avoid breathing in any of the dust if you sand these matirials).
All in all, maybe my favorite BM of all time. Well, it's in three way tie with the 806 and 42, -all sadly gone.
As for this knife, I feel it should be brought up and at least put in the running whenever there is a "toughest folder" question. Plus it looks good and seems to works well in every way for me.

They have several new items hitting the market this year, I would advise checking out the Benchmade 741 Onslaught and 755 MPR Models... They are def two blades I plan on buying sometime this year....

Thanks Siggyhk. And those two BMs... very cool, but the Onslaught is way massive. The MPR (along with its price) is getting into the Alias/Sage 2/other Ti frame locks market. Still a very cool knife, but it will have quite a bit of competition.

thats a shame
Just as I had enough money saved, they go an discontinue the one I wanted. man that sucks, wonder why they discontinued it?

i think it may have been because blackwood pulled out of collaboration with benchmade, benchmade produced it 1 or 2 years after the collaboration and then stopped production. both the skirmish and rukus were blackwood collaborative knives.

I got mine for about 167 shipped last year.

Great design, but I wish the scales were 1/16th of an inch thinner and a bit more contoured on the edges. But still a great deal.

I have to send mine back to BM though since it came with a loose pivot in the box and the edge got dented against one of the backspacers before I noticed it. One of the torx screws near the pivot also rattled out, so that needs to be replaced and loctited too.

My main complaint though is that the lanyard hole is a bit thin. Threading unstripped 550 cord through it was damn tough.

If I were to improve the design, I'd have ground out a bit of the cutting edge/handle to form a usable choil, and again, thin down/contour the scales a bit. The micarta on mine seemed a bit smooth, so I'd also add checkering on some portions.

Anyways, here's an old picture I have of mine next to some other knives. It's a bit longer than that fullsize Nimravus 141 tanto next to it.
