Nordic Bear II vs. BCNW-01

just curious what the other knives are in your pic. the Spyderco on the bottom is obvious, but not sure what the one above it and the one on top with the flat grind are.

The one above the Spydie is a Brian Andrews Bushcrafter. I have 2, one is 5/32" thick the other is 1/8"....I much prefer the 1/8" thick version.

The flat ground blade at the top is an Eznzo Trapper 95

About the BCNW I'd say the overall IDA is pretty good, but I'd say it overall feels too fat.

Substancial handle is good idea but this one for some reason doesn't seem perfectly right.

Yes and yes. The BCNW01 just seems a lot heavier and a bit clumsy to me.

I have a BCNW01 and a Nordic Bear (not a NBII). The BCNW is 5/32 w/bamboo and scallops and my NB is 1/8 w/natural canvas micarta, no scallops. (I am not sure but I think the NB has a slightly longer handle than the NBII.)

The size and shape of the handle is purely preferential, I think both knives have the perfect size handles and shape.

If I had to pick one it would be the NB, I like canvas better than bamboo and I like the blade shape and steel thickness of the NB better. The bamboo is a little slick and the thumb scallops add little to control, they aren't comfortable unless you round the edges.
