Nor'easter Starts Tonight

A "Nor'easter" is supposed to hit Long Island tonight. Lot's of wind and rain on the coast and snow inland. I heard this described as a "rare once in 20 year storm" but I dunno...that may have been media fear-mongering. My problem will be basement flooding. I've cleaned the gutters and tarped outside where the water pools, but the damn stainless chimney cap blew off a month ago and I never reset it so I'll get a lot of water down the chimney. :( Short of the chimney cap I guess I'm as ready as I can be.

Storm heads East, could become late nor'easter

(AP) - After a foot of snow in parts of the Central Plains and at least one tornado in north Texas where one person was killed, a big storm system is heading east.

Forecasters say the system could pound the Mid-Atlantic States with rain and send a rare springtime nor'easter into parts of New York and Pennsylvania with heavy snow. Rain should spread into the Mid-Atlantic states by tonight and continue tomorrow with strong thunderstorms possible.

The strongest development could happen tomorrow evening with big winds driving the storm.

Western Pennsylvania, upper New York State and and parts of New England could see snow.

I am Working Til the morning on the psych ward here in NJ, I brought in some extra gear, to hold me over if I get stuck. My only real worry is that my relief gets in on time and I get home.
 
Sounds line 2 to 3AM is when things might start to get hairy. When's your shift end?
 
I'm getting hit by this storm tomorrow- living in Central Connecticut. Looks like it gets to unload a little on you NY boys first....

Ya!!! It seems like us Islanders are always takin' the beatin' first...and the bully is tuckered out when he gets around to hittin' on you Yankees. ;)
 
How bad is it in MD? Some TV talking head said it might be a "1 in 20 year monster" the other day. Sounded like fear mongering to me. How bad is it hittin' you in MD?
 
Not supposed to hit here in eastern Maine until tomorrow mid afternoon. I'm off to the rifle range early in the morning. If the storm comes according to schedule I should just be wrapping things up when it arrives.
 
It is a big system, here in northern Ontario we are supposed to get heavy rain
tomorrow afternoon !

My shift ends at 7 am, I have no trouble getting home, since i have a decent sized 4wd, that can get me through most things and I know a lot of routes home.

My worry like I said is my relief getting in or power going out and freaking out the patients.

They did a generator test this morning and all seems to be functional, They fixed the problem with the power going out and the doors unlocking, :thumbup:

CQ I get out there quite a bit...Islip/hecksher area..I sometimes shoot at the LISC in Islip. Always nice to see a fellow New Yorker
