Just picked up a genuine Norlund splitting axe was wondering if anyone had a weight for this beast. The head is 7.5 in. long cutting edge is 5 in.and the poll is 1.75 in from the eye thanks slipp
I have no way of weighing the head alone, but IIRC it was sold as a 5 lb (2.27 kilo) axe. Total weight is 6.4 lb (2.9 kilos), so that sounds about right (handle is not original). Mine, however, is 8.5" (21.6 cm) edge to poll. Other dimensions are the same as yours.
I think you'll be happy with it. I used mine recently to split up some maple from a tree I had taken down. I only had to use a wedge for the largest pieces.
iSaur thanks for the post and yes it does look exactly like yours the weight seems right . I couldn't find much about them on the net thanks again for your time and pics your axe looks almost new should serve you well thanks slipp
