If I overheat a blade when grinding prebefore HT, do I have to normalise it before HT or can I just HT it without normalisatio?

What kind of steel?

Overheating due to grinding prior to heat treat is not a problem, however, I always recommend normalizing prior to final heat treat. Many benefits.

Sort of like when you are stressed at work and you stop off to have a drink before going home to the wife and kids. You need to relieve a little stress so you don't "crack-up" or "warp-out" when you get home.

Robert,

Are you talking about "nomalizing" before final HT?... or just running a stress relief cycle (or two)?
