Does anyone use a kiln to normalize/refine grain, if so, how do you set up the program?

I'm not sure how effective it would be with the amount of time it takes to cool down

Well I use a furnace. You have to remove your blades between heats. You can cool it down pretty quickly with a fan and the door open but I don't see how you're going to program it and walk away.

Ok that answers my question. I assumed everyone used their ovens but couldn't wrap my head around the cool down.
What steel are you using? Do you mean annealing?

Hoss

A few different simple steels, I got the annealing down I was just wondering if there was a way to normalize and thermal cycle by program, but couldn't figure out how you got around the time it takes to cool down.

Apparently you don't.

Having the kiln is cool but new to me so thanks!

It's very easy with an oven.

Put the blade in at 1600. Let it get to temp, then take the blade out and let it cool to black. Leave the oven door open until the temp drops. It shouldn't take more than 30 seconds. The reprogram your controller for 1500 degrees... And so on.
