Anybody up on Norse mythology?Who was the lame weapons maker for the Norse gods.

Did they have one, too, or did the Greek god Hephaistos just nip up there now and again to make a few swords for them? :)

Here's the Norse mythology section of the Encyclopedia Mythica if you want to search further.

Völundr was the closest I could find in Norse mythology. Does sound more like Hephaistos/Vulcan, though.

I don't think there was any close analogue to Hephaestus among the Aesir. Their weapons were made by dwarves.

There was Wayland the Smith, but I don't think he was actually a God.

Have to do a search.

I forget the name, but I know that there was a famous dwarf who made Thors hammer.
Mjollnir

"In Norse myth, the hammer that belongs to the mighty god Thor. Mjollnir ("that smashes") was made for him by the dwarfs Brok and Eitri, who made many magical objects for the gods."

I've never thought of Wayland Smith as Norse. Learn something every day....
Wayland Smith is the English, well Anglo-Saxon, version. He is Volund in the Norse and Velent in the Teutonic versions.

Damn! I was thinking Festus, at first, but then I remembered — he was the lame blacksmith on Gunsmoke. Entirely different guy.

The Runes of Weland's Sword
1906

A smith makes me
To betray my Man
In my first fight.

To gather Gold
At the world's end
I am sent.

The Gold I gather
Comes into England
Out of deep Water.

Like a shining Fish
Then it descends
Into deep Water.

It is not given
For goods or gear,
But for The Thing.

The Gold I gather
A King covets
For an ill use

The Gold I gather
Is drawn up
Out of deep Water.

Like a shining Fish
Then it descends
Into deep Water.

It is not given
For goods or gear,
But for The Thing.

Norse weapons maker: "Here Thor. Here is ye mighty hammer you have ordered."

Thor: [swinging hammer in air, disgusted] "How dare you! I can't smash overripe melons with this, let alone the skulls of Mongol curs! Good God, you are lame!"
