Norse Mythology

And yesterday was Woden's Day, a god also commemorated in the name of the Black Country town of Wednesbury. :)

Thor is remembered at Thurlow and Thurston, and probably many others.

Andy.

And tomorrow will be Freya's Day, Friday. And next week, we'll Tiw's Day, Tuesday. You can surely see the Anglo-Saxon influence overcoming the Latin in all of this. The only day remaining that is named after a Roman god is Saturn's Day, Saturday. Then we get Sun Day and Moon Day. Of course, our months still reflect the Julian calendar of Caius Julius Caesar and his grand-nephew and heir, Octavian or Augustus.

Over here; yesterday was Odin's day and tomorrow will be Freia's day.

There was Wayland the Smith, but I don't think he was actually a God.

Have to do a search.

Andy.

The Anglo-Saxons regard Wayland as a god. The Norse don't regard him as a god. There aren't a huge number of differences between Norse and Anglo-Saxon heathenry but that's one.

Well, yes, NV, but what do you expect from people who live up where it is so cold? :D At least the Anglo-Saxons had the good sense to move somewhere warmed by the Gulf Stream.
