north sea fossil mammoth tooth/molar

North Sea stuff, whether it be tusk or teeth, tends to be a much poorer grade than Siberian or Alaskan. It is kinda chalky and very unstable. I would have this stabilized or stabilize it yourself with super glue and lots of it!!

Thanx guys i just got some mammoth teeth i need to cut them and stabalize them so i can use them on my folding line of damascus
i just enter in blade forum its wonderfull lots of help is here
see you guys

North sea fossils are dredged up and have been under water for thousands of years. They are chalky, soft, and badly de-mineralized. Some will stabilize and make so-so handle material, but it will always tend to flake easily. It makes fine display pieces for setting your knives against in photos, but poor knife handles.
I have never had any success with self stabilizing them, as they have usually been processed quite a bit before you get them. If they smell something like paint or solvent, they most likely will always be like they are now. I have had some done by WSSI, and it was more usable, but still nothing like good mammoth.

Yea i find out this will be a problem i am tryong to find a good source for mammoth tooth and bark i have called many places and left messages but no reply buying just scale is kinda expensive any suggestion for a good source??

Where are you actually located at?

There are many ivory sellers that will sell a whole tusk, or part of one. These are not cheap. A set of scales is not low cost either. As a professional knife maker
I would think you would have some suppliers who could handle your request.
